Week of September 11th……

Hello Everyone,

I hope you all had an enjoyable weekend!  Here is what is coming our way this week.  Keep up your hard work 5th graders!

Curriculum News:

Reading:  We will begin lesson two in our anthology today.  For our focus skill, we will be reading, analyzing, and identifying plot events, conflict, and the resolution of a narrative.  Our reading selection is an autobiography.  Today, we will start to work with our new robust vocabulary and use our prior knowledge and context clues to make predictions of the meanings of the new words. As the week continues,we will do our two close readings of the autobiography that will prepare us for our comprehension, vocabulary, and focus skill activities.

Spelling:  Your child received their spelling homework packet today.  Your child knows that the spelling homework packet is due Thursday, and the test will be on Friday.  Thank you for your help in giving your child a practice test on Thursday evening to help prepare her/him for Friday’s test.

Math: In math this week we will be concluding unit 1. On Monday we will have stations to review skills for tomorrow’s test. On Tuesday we will spend the majority of math taking the unit 1 test. Wednesday will be the start of unit 2, which is our multiplication unit. Students will begin the unit by looking at factors as well as prime and composite numbers. We will wrap up the week with learning about exponents on Thursday, and learning about multiplication patterns times powers of 10 on Friday.

Reminders:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       This Thurssday, September 14th, is “Meet the teacher Night” from 4:00-6:00 PM.  Hope to see you there!
