Week of September 18th…..

Hello Martic Families,

I hope everyone had a great weekend.  Here is what we will be stretching our brain with, this week, to make it stronger!  Keep working hard 5th graders….. YOU ROCK!!!

Reading:  Today we finished up our vocabulary and focus skill activities for lesson two.  Tomorrow we will begin lesson three.  Our reading passage is a historical fiction piece, and our focus skill is to make inferences regarding a character’s motives in a text. These motives will be revealed through traits, thoughts, words, and actions. We will continue to examine our main character’s “mindset” as well.

Spelling:  Your child received her/his spelling homework  packet today.  He/she knows that this packet is due on Thursday and that our spelling test is on Friday. Thank you for giving your child a practice test on Thursday night.

Math: Today in math we will be learning how to use the distributive property and partial products to multiply 2 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers. On Tuesday we will begin estimating products up to 3 digit by 1 digit using rounding and compatible numbers strategies. For the remainder of the week we will then work on multiplication using partial products, distributive property, and traditional method to solve up to 3 by 2 digit multiplication problems. On Friday we will have our first quiz for unit 2, so keep up the awesome work you have been showing me so far this year.

Thank you for your support and have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
