Week of October 2nd…..

Hello 5th Grade Martic Families,

I hope you were all able to enjoy the beautiful fall weather this past weekend.  Here’s what we have coming down the pike this week.

Curriculum News:

Reading:  Today and tomorrow we are finishing up lesson four.  On Wednesday, we will begin lesson five which is our first readers’ theater for the year.  We have three different readers’ theaters, and each student will have a part in one of them.  The children will be practicing their fluency which is their rate of reading and expression.  We are looking forward to getting started on these readers’ theaters!

Spelling: Your child received her/his spelling homework packet today.  The children know that their completed packet is due on Thursday and that their test will be given on Friday.

Math: This week in math we will be continuing unit 3, dividing with 1 digit divisors. Monday we will go over division patterns with powers of tens, and talk about mental division with zeros. On Tuesday we will estimate using rounding and compatible numbers strategies. WednesdayThursday and Friday will be dedicated to dividing by 3 and 4 digit dividends, and the students will review 2 strategies from last year. Please do your best to practice these strategies on your homework, I know they can be different but you may find that after some practice you become really successful at division!

Reminders:

Thursday, October 5th is picture day! 🙂

Monday, October 9th: School is not in session

Thank you for your support and have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
