Week of October 10th…..

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all had a relaxing and an enjoyable weekend!  Read on in order to see some of the ways that we we will engage our brains this week.

Curriculum News:

Reading:  Today in reading, we reviewed our lesson five vocabulary words by first doing an independent study, with our cards, and then a buddy study.  This prepared us to successfully complete our independent vocabulary activity. This vocabulary will appear throughout each of our readers’ theater scripts.  Wednesday and Thursday, we will get into our designated readers’ theater groups, cooperate to assign the different parts, and read through the readers’ theater as we practice our fluency. (rate of reading and expression) On Friday, each group will perform their readers’ theater for their reading class.  We are really looking forward to these performances on Friday!

Spelling:  Mr. Plumbo and I decided to give the children a break from spelling this week.  They have earned it!  So, that being said, your child does not have a spelling homework packet this week, and she/he doesn’t have a spelling test on Friday.  Enjoy the break! 🙂

Math: This week in math we will be continuing unit 3, dividing with 1 digit divisors. Today we focused on placing the first digit in a quotient, when the first place value of a dividend can’t divide into the groups of the divisor. On Wednesday we will practice some division problems where part of the quotient is a zero, and the steps we take for that situation. Thursday will be focused around how to interpret a remainder in a division problem, as well as taking a quiz on all the skills we have covered so far. On Friday we will end the week with some word problem practice, and how to determine if a word problem is division.

Reminders:

Friday, October 20th, students do not have school.

Thank you for your continuous support, it is greatly appreciated!  Have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
