Week of October 16th….

Hello Everyone,

Happy Monday!  Here’s what’s coming down the pike in 5th grade this week.

Curriculum News:

Reading:  We began lesson six in reading today.  Our focus skill is identifying the theme of a narrative based on analyzing a character’s qualities, motives, and actions.  Our passage is a realistic fiction piece.  Tomorrow, we will do a vocabulary review activity before doing our first close reading of our narrative.  Wednesday, we’ll do our second close reading of the passage and work through the comprehension activity with our group.Thursday, we’ll do vocabulary and focus skill review activities which will help us to complete our independent focus skill and vocabulary activities successfully.  Keep up the hard work fifth graders and having a growth mindset!
Spelling:  Your child received their spelling homework packet today.  She/He knows that it is due on Thursday and that our test is also on Thursday due to the students not having school on Friday.

Math: This week in math we will be reviewing everything we worked on in unit 3 on Monday, and taking the test on TuesdayWednesday we will begin our fourth unit, which is division with 2 digit divisors. We will begin the unit with estimation strategies, and end the week working with base ten blocks to divide by 2 digit divisors. Keep up the hard work in math fifth grade!

Reminders:

Friday, October 20th, the children do not have school.

Thank you for your support, and have a wonderful week!
