Week of November 27th…

Hi, 5th Grade Martic Families,

I hope you and yours had a relaxing, memorable Thanksgiving and break as well.  It’s hard to fathom that November is quickly coming to a close!  Read on to find out how we will exercise our brains this week and get back into the school groove.

Curriculum News:

Reading:  Today we got into our new Readers’ Theater groups.  The children worked together to compromise and divide up the different characters’ lines amongst themselves.  They did an excellent job of working through this process!  Good teamwork fifth graders!  I know you will keep it up! Each of the three groups then began practicing their fluency by practicing their lines.  Tomorrow, the groups will each get to run through their Readers’ Theater again, and one group will perform, for their reading class, at the end of class.  The other two groups will perform on Thursday.  After each performance, we will evaluate and discuss the mindset of each character.(Growth, Fixed, or a little bit of both?)  On Friday, we will wrap up our week by reading, analyzing, and having an open floor discussion about the main article and a couple of other informative articles, from Time for Kids, as well.

Spelling:  Your child received their spelling homework packet today.  Since today is Tuesday, the packet is not due until Friday.  The spelling test will also be on Friday.  Your child is aware of this change in our schedule.

Math: This week in math we will start by multiplying decimals by powers of 10, and learn a quick trick to finding the products. On Wednesday we will review the multiplication properties, and take our unit 6 quiz on ThursdayFriday we will change gears, and start talking about decimal division, beginning with estimation. Keep up the hard work each and every day in math fifth graders!
Thank you for your support and have a wonderful week!
Mrs. Eby 🙂
