Week of December 18th…

Hello, 5th Grade Families,

I hope you all had an enjoyable weekend.  Keep reading to find out what we will be doing this week to engage and stretch our brains.

Curriculum News:

Reading:  Today we finished reading and analyzing our informational narrative for lesson twelve.  We then set up our vocabulary cards and began our independent study.  Tomorrow, and Wednesday, we will continue our independent study which will ready us for our buddy study and our independent vocabulary activity.  We will also do a review activity for comparing and contrasting in order to help us be successful when completing our focus skill activity. On Thursday, we will work with our Time For Kids informational magazine.  Friday, we will have our annual 5th-grade Read-In which is explained below.

Spelling: Your child does not have a spelling homework packet or a test this week.

Math: This week in math we begin by learning how to plot and identify coordinates of an ordered pair. On Tuesday we will apply a pattern to ordered pairs on a coordinate grid, involving 1 or 2 steps within the pattern. Wednesday will be our review day of everything we learned in unit 7, so study guides will come home Wednesday night. Thursday will be the end of unit test day. Keep up the hard work fifth graders!

Reminders:

This Friday, December 22nd, the students will be dismissed at 1:30.

We will return to school on Tuesday, January 2, 2018.

Also, this Friday, we will be holding our annual 5th Grade Read-In!  Your child may wear pajamas and bring slippers if she/he chooses to do so.  The children are encouraged to bring a sleeping bag,  blanket, pillow, and books, books, books!!!  We will push all of our desks and chairs to the outskirts of our classroom, spread out our belongings, and read, read, read!!!

Happy holidays to you and your families, and thank you for your support!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
