Week of January 29th…

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all had a nice weekend!  Read on to find out how we will exercise and make our brains stronger this week.

Reading: Today, the three readers’ theater groups continued practicing their fluency by reading and acting out their lines.  This helped them prepare for their performance tomorrow during our reading class. The children have been cooperating and working very hard in each of their groups.  We are excited and looking forward to the performances! Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, we will be tackling our third Text Dependent Analysis essay which will be centered around our last expository nonfiction passage from our anthology.  We will continue to use the RAP+C graphic organizer to structure our thoughts before writing it in essay form.
Spelling:  Your child received our weekly spelling homework packet today.  She/he is aware that the packet is due on Thursday and that our spelling test will be taken on Friday.

Math: This week in math we are starting the week out with a quick review of everything we learned last week in unit 9, and completing the quiz for this unit. On Tuesday we will move into the second half of unit 9, and begin estimating sums and differences of mixed numbers. On Wednesday we will add and subtract mixed numbers with unlike denominators, and Thursday focus on how to subtract mixed numbers with renaming. Friday we will review how to subtract with renaming since that is the hardest skill in this unit. Keep up the hard work fifth graders!

Have a  wonderful week and thank you for your support!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
