Week of February 5th…

Hello, 5th Grade Martic Families,

I hope you all had a great weekend.  If you are Eagles fans,  I’m sure your family enjoyed the Superbowl as much as mine did!  Here is what is coming down the pike this week that will engage our brains.

Curriculum News:

Reading:  Today, we worked our hardest in order to attempt to finish our Text Dependent Analysis RAP+C graphic organizer.   We got very close to accomplishing this goal, however, we will need to wrap it up at the beginning of class tomorrow.  Boy, we are really stretching our brains and making them stronger!!!  Then we will begin our anthology lesson number sixteen.  Our focus skill is making inferences based on clues from the author combined with our own personal experiences.  Our reading selection is realistic fiction. Wednesday and Thursday, we’ll do our first and second close readings of the realistic fiction passage by discussing the text along the way and by unpacking our thinking. We will finish up our week, on Friday, as we work through the comprehension activity.
Spelling:  Your child received her/his spelling packet today.  It is due on Thursday, and the test is on Friday.
Math: This week in math we will finish up reviewing for unit 9 on Monday, and take the end of unit test on Tuesday. Study guides will be coming home Monday afternoon. Wednesday we will begin our multiplication and division of fractions unit, starting off Wednesday with figuring out fractions of a whole. Thursday we will learn how to estimate products of fractions, using rounding and compatible numbers. Friday we will end the week by finding products of fractions. Keep up the hard work fifth graders!
Thank you very much for your support and have a wonderful week!
Mrs. Eby 🙂
