Week of March 19th…

Hello Everyone,

Happy spring!  Spring supposedly arrived around 12:15 this afternoon. However, as I’m typing and looking out of our classroom windows, you’d never know it.  The snow just keeps coming down!!! Keep reading to find out what brain-stretching and strengthening activities we will be up to for the remainder of the week.

Reading:  This week, we will be reading and analyzing a couple of fictional stories of two journeys set aboard the Mayflower. Before reading each passage, we will set our purpose for reading by reading the questions that we know we will need to be looking for clues and answers to as we read each passage. We will also be working with our Time For Kids informational magazine which informs us about many different current events.  Plus, it is loaded with many different text features!

Spelling:  Your child received his/her spelling homework packet yesterday.  She/he is aware that the packet is due Thursday, and the test is on Friday.

Math: This week in math we will continue unit 12, learning about geometry. Monday we will work on classifying quadrilaterals based on congruent sides and sets of parallel sides. We are also discussing how different quadrilaterals can be classified as each other based on similar attributes. Tuesday we will review polygons, triangles, and quadrilaterals, then take a quiz on what we know so far. Wednesday we will move on to classifying 3D figures, and Thursday’s focus will be calculating volume of a prism. Our last lesson this week will be about volume of a composite figure. Keep up the hard work fifth grade!

Reminders:

This Friday, March 23rd is a 1:30 dismissal.

Keep staying in a growth mindset and working hard 5th graders…YOU ROCK!!!

Thank you for your support and have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
