Week of April 9th…

Hello, Martic Fifth Grade Families,

Your children came in this morning ready to hit the ground running and put 150% EFFORT into their first ELA PSSA!  Woooo Hooo… Way to go 5th grade, and we know you will keep it up!!!  Read on to find out what we’ll be doing to change the structure and functioning of our brain this week.

Curriculum News:

Reading: Today, we got into our designated idiomatic Readers’ Theater groups. After figuring out who was going to portray each character, the groups began practicing their fluency. The children will continue to practice tomorrow, and we are shooting to begin performances Wednesday and hoping to wrap them up by Friday.  We will also begin lesson twenty one.  The passage is expository nonfiction, and the focus skill is author’s viewpoint/perspective.

Spelling:  Due to PSSA testing this week, we are not doing a spelling unit.

Math: This week in math we continue reviewing our previous fifth-grade units. Monday we will talk about unit 5, focusing on adding and subtracting decimals. Tuesday will be unit 6, which was our multiplication and division of decimals unit. On Wednesday we will review unit 7, talking about patterns, the order of operations, expressions, and graphing ordered pairs. On Thursday we will practice unit 8, which focused on adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers. Friday we will wrap up the week with unit 9, multiplying and dividing fractions and mixed numbers. Keep up the hard work in math this marking period fifth grade!

Heads Up:  Your child was given a Martic Spring Fling Basket Raffle flyer today,  If she/he doesn’t give it to you, would you please ask him/her for it?  It explains that Martic’s Spring Fling is Friday,  May 18th from 5:00-8:00.  It also gives ideas for an item that your family could donate for our 5th-grade basket. Please consider doing so if you are able.

Reminders:

Next Monday and Wednesday are the two days that fifth grade will be taking the Math PSSA Test in the morning.

Next Friday, April 20th is a 1:30 dismissal.

Thank you for your continuous support, it is greatly appreciated!  Have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
