Week of April 23rd…

Hello, 5th Grade Martic Families,

What a beautiful spring day it is! Here are a few ways that we’ll be forming new neurological connections which will change the structure and functioning of our brain this week.

Reading:  Today and tomorrow we are wrapping up lesson twenty-one’s activities.  Wednesday, we will begin lesson twenty -three. Our passage is a realistic nonfiction piece, and our focus skill is imagery.  Imagery is one type of literary device which appeals to our five senses and makes writing interesting and vivid.
Spelling:  Your child received her/his spelling homework packet today.  He/she is aware that it is due on Thursday and our test will be on Friday.

Math: This week in math we will review fraction computation again on Monday through Wednesday. Students will be reviewing steps to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions and mixed numbers. As part of the review, we are using recipes for baked goods to write our own word problems. On Wednesday, students are invited to bring in a baked good they made or got from the store, to share with the class as we solve each other’s word problems. Thursday and Friday we are working on graphing skills and will review how to make and interpret bar graphs, line graphs, and pictographs. Keep up the hard work in math this marking period fifth grade!

Have a wonderful week and thank you for all of your support!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
