Week of October 1st…

Hello Everyone,

Happy October 1st!  I hope you were all able to get outside this past weekend and enjoy the beautiful fall weather.  Here’s what is coming down the pike this week that will enable our brains to stretch and become stronger.  Our fifth graders have been keeping themselves in a growth mindset, and I know that they will continue to do so.  They ROCK!!!

Curriculum News:

Reading:  Today, we continued working on reading, analyzing and identifying the author’s point of view and perspective in a passage. Tomorrow, we will begin lesson three.  Our focus skill is to make inferences regarding a character’s motives that the author reveals through a character’s traits, thoughts, words, and actions.  Our passage is a historical fiction piece.

Spelling:  Your child received their spelling homework packet today.  They know that it is due on Thursday and that their test is on Friday.

Math: This week in math we will wrap up our second unit. Monday we will have review stations to practice every skill covered in the multiplication unit, and Tuesday will be the end of unit test. Make sure to get those study guides done on Monday night. Wednesday we will begin our first division unit of the year, and practice relating division to multiplication facts. Thursday we will focus on dividing numbers by powers of 10, and Friday will be basic 2 digits by 1 digit division. Keep up the hard work in math fifth graders!

Reminders:

Thursday, October 4th: Picture Day

Monday, October 8th:  School is not in session

Thank you for your support and have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
