Week of October 8th.

Hello Fifth Grade Martic Families,

I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend!  Keep reading to find out how we will be strengthening our brains this week.  I know that our 5th graders will continue to give 150% effort… Way to go!!!

Curriculum News:

Reading:  Today, we reviewed how to read, analyze and determine a character’s motives/reasons in order to be successful on our independent focus skill activity. We also set up our lesson three vocabulary cards so that we are ready to do our independent study and buddy study tomorrow.  This will enable us to complete our vocabulary activity successfully and on our own by using context clues.  Thursday and Friday, we will be engaged in review activities for interpreting fictional texts which we covered throughout lessons one and two.

Spelling:  Due to the short week, Mr. Plumbo and I have decided to take a break from spelling.  Your children are not bringing home a homework packet, and they won’t have a test on Friday.

Math: This week in math we will continue our third unit, dividing by 1 digit divisors. Tuesday we will practice the “Big 7” strategy of division, where students will learn how to use multiplication facts to help divide. On Wednesday we will focus on the “Partial Quotients” strategy, which is very similar to the partial products we learned during unit 2. On Thursday we will review the traditional strategy, which students will be familiar with from past years. On Friday we will review all the various strategies for division. Please do your best to practice each strategy at night on homework, because you may find a new way that makes division easier for you this year. Keep up the hard work in math fifth graders!

Thank you for your continuous support and have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
