Week of October 22nd…

Hi 5th Grade Families,

I hope you are all doing well!  Here’s what’s coming down the pike, this week, that will enable us to form new neurological connections in our brains.  I know our fifth graders will continue to keep their growth mindsets on…WAY TO GO!!!

Curriculum News:

Reading:  This week, we will continue to work with our informational narrative which gives information about a topic while telling a story.  The topic is life in different tidal zones. Tomorrow, we will do a close reading and zero in on the text features of the passage, their purposes, and use them to help us better understand the passage.   For the remainder of the week, we will continue our vocabulary study as well as read, analyze text, and identify the text structure of comparison and contrast.

Spelling:  Your child received their spelling homework packet today.  They know it’s due on Thursday and that the test is on Friday.

Math: This week in math we are moving on to unit 4, dividing by 2 digit divisors. On Monday we worked on estimating quotients by rounding and using compatible numbers. Tuesday we will work on dividing by 2 digit divisors using the traditional method from unit 3. On Wednesday we will practice dividing with the Big 7 strategy, which may be easier for some students this time around. Thursday we will take our first Benchmark test of the year, which will review units 1-3. Friday we will continue to practice our division strategies of traditional and Big 7. Keep up the hard work in math fifth graders!

Thank you for your support and have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
