Week of Nov. 5th…

Hi Martic 5th Grade Families,

It’s going to be another busy week for us, and we are looking forward to the challenge!  Here are some of the activities that we’ll be involved in that will keep our brains stretching and getting stronger.

Curriculum News:

Reading:  Today, we began our next lesson.  The focus skill is to recognize that authors use different text structures to organize ideas.  We will also zero in on the text structure of cause and effect.  Specifically, reading, analyzing, and identifying the cause and effect text structure in expository nonfiction. This is the genre that our reading passage is for this lesson.

Spelling:

Your child received her/his spelling list and homework packet today.  He/she is aware that the homework packet is due on Thursday and that the test is on Friday.

Math: This week in math we will begin our fifth unit, adding and subtracting decimals. Monday we will start the unit off by reviewing the steps to rounding a decimal number. Tuesday we will apply our rounding skills to estimating sums and differences of decimals. Wednesday we will focus on adding decimal numbers, and Thursday we will review addition properties with commutative, associative, and identity. Friday we will review everything from the week, and work on some word problems. Keep up the hard work in math fifth graders!

Reminders:

We will visit the bookfair this Wednesday morning, Nov. 7th.

Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are 1:30 dismissals.

Conferences are being held on Wednesday morning, afternoon, evening, and Thursday afternoon.  (Nov. 7th and 8th) I’m looking forward to seeing you at your child’s conference!

Thank you for your support, and have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
