Week of November 12th…

Hi Everybody,

I hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend. Read on to find out some of the activities that will help us to exercise our brains this week and make them stronger and more powerful.

Reading:  Today we did a close reading and writing activity that centered around an informational passage on Veterans Day.  Ask your child to share the information that they learned with you.  Tomorrow and Wednesday, we will be wrapping up interpreting nonfiction texts and text structures.  Thursday and Friday, we will be divided into readers’ theater groups and practicing our fluency.  Each readers’ theater group will work with a script that is loaded with idiomatic expressions!

Spelling:  Your child received their spelling homework packet today.  He/she knows that the completed packet is due on Thursday and that our test is on Friday.

Math: This week in math we will be wrapping up our fifth unit for adding and subtracting decimals. Monday we will focus on subtracting decimals, especially with a missing place value that needs to be replaced with a zero. Tuesday and Wednesday we will be working a lot on single and multi-step word problems involving addition and subtraction. Thursday will be a review day for all of our skills that we covered, and Friday will be the end of unit test. Keep up the hard work in math fifth graders!

Have a wonderful week, and thank you for your continuous support!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
