Week of February 4th…

Hi Everyone,

We are off to another great start this week! Keep reading to find out some ways that we will be making our brains stronger and stronger!

Curriculum News:

Reading:  Due to our irregular schedule last week, we will be working hard to catch up this week.  In reading today, we went back and reviewed our robust vocabulary words plus how to identify a narrative’s theme by focusing on its details.  We then began working on our independent vocabulary and focus skill/theme activities.  Tomorrow, we will wrap up those activities and begin marking up a TDA prompt as well as writing a quality introductory paragraph together.  Wednesday, we will start to work on our two-column notes, graphic organizer.  We will also be searching, the realistic fiction narrative for direct quotes to “show” the proof in our two-column notes. By the end of the week, we hope to begin another realistic fiction piece entitled “Sign of the Cat”, independently and analyze it to identify its theme.

Spelling: Your child recived his/her spelling homework packet today. She/he is aware that the completed packet is due on Thursday and that our test will be on Friday.

Math: This week in math we will be wrapping up our 9th unit. Monday we will start off the week by practicing adding and subtracting mixed numbers again. Tuesday we will learn how subtract mixed numbers when it requires borrowing, or regrouping. Wednesday we will review how to subtract with regrouping one more time. Thursday and Friday we will wrap up the unit with a review day and take the test Friday. Keep up the hard work in math fifth graders!

Reminders:

Friday, February 15th: School is now in session

Have a wonderful week and thank you for your continuous support!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
