Week of March 18th…

Hello Martic 5th Grade Families,

I hope you all had a great weekend! Keep reading to find out what we will be doing this week to strengthen our brains. Keep up your hard work and staying in a growth mindset… YOU 5th GRADERS ROCK!!!

Curriculum News:

Reading:  Today, we reviewed our new robust vocabulary and completed the independent vocabulary activity.  Tomorrow, we will begin to read, analyze, and discuss an expository non-fiction passage about endangered sea turtles.  This will enable us to identify the author’s point/claim and the evidence to support it.  When we finish this endeavor, we will read, analyze, and markup a TDA prompt that is based on this text.  Then we will be ready to set up our two-column notes graphic organizer and start to fill it out.  By the end of the week, we hope to have completed our two-column notes and to have begun our TDA essay.

Spelling: Your child received their spelling homework packet today. They are aware that it is due on Thursday and that our test is on Friday. Please continue to help your child prepare for the test since our words are readily becoming more challenging each week.

Math: This week in math we will be wrapping up our 11th unit on measurement. Monday we will focus on converting metric units of mass between kilograms, grams, and milligrams. On Tuesday we will move on to converting metric capacity, focusing on liters and milliliters. Wednesday and Thursday will be unit 11 review days, where we will complete stations to review everything we learned about in unit 11. Study guides will be Thursday night’s homework this week. Keep up the hard work in math fifth graders!

Reminders:

Friday, March 22nd is an early dismissal day. (1:30)

Have a wonderful week, and thank you for your support!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
