Week of March 25th…

Hello Everyone!

I hope you all had a nice and enjoyable weekend! Wasn’t Sunday’s weather beautiful? Here’s what’s coming down the pike this week that will allow us to stretch our brains and make them STRONGER!!!

Curriculum News:

Reading:  Today in reading, we reviewed our TDA prompt that we marked up last Friday to have it fresh in our working memory.  Then, we worked to fill out the restate and answer in our two-column notes, graphic organizer.  We also came up with our first main idea and pulled a direct quote, from the expository nonfiction passage, that supports and shows our main idea. Next, we wrote an analysis of our direct quote together. Tomorrow and Wednesday, we will continue to fill out our two-column notes graphic organizer in the same fashion. However, the second and third main idea will be done by each student independently, as well as finding direct quotes and writing an analysis of them. When we have completed our graphic organizer, the students will turn the notes into a five paragraph essay.  The children are really stretching their brains as we work through these activities!  Keep staying in a growth mindset and working hard!

Spelling: Your child received her/his spelling homework packet today. He/she knows that the packet is due on Thurssday and that our test is on Friday.

Math: This week in math we will begin our 12th and final unit in math, which is geometry. On Monday we will review the different types of polygons, and also identify them as regular or not regular. Tuesday we will focus on Triangles, and how to classify them based on their side and angle measurements. On Wednesday we will shift our focus to quadrilaterals, and classify them based on the number of congruent and parallel sides. Thursday will be a review day from the first 3 lessons and our unit 12 quiz day. On Friday we will learn about 3D shapes, which will be focused on rectangular prisms, triangular prisms, and cubes. Keep up the hard work in math fifth graders!

Reminders:

School is in session this Friday, March 29th.

Thank you for your support, and have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
