Hi, Martic 5th grade Families,
I hope everyone had a great weekend and got to enjoy the beautiful weather that we had! Here are some of the ways that we will work out our brains in order to make them stronger!!! Keep staying in a growth mindset 5th graders… YOU ROCK!!!
Curriculum News:
Reading: Today in reading, we were introduced to our first set of robust vocabulary words. We did our first close reading of the vocabulary story and started sharing our prior knowledge about their meanings. Tomorrow, we will continue sharing our prior knowledge and then move into determining the meaning of the vocabulary words by using context clues. Wednesday we will begin our first passage which is a realistic fiction piece and use it to identify the elements of a fictional text. Thursday, we will continue reading our realistic fiction passage as we identify the elements of fiction. Friday, if needed, we will wrap up our Wednesday and Thursday activities and begin identifying a speaker’s or narrator’s point of view/perspective.
Spelling: Your child received her/his spelling homework packet today. He/she knows that it is due on Thursday and that our test is on Friday.
Math: This week in math, we will start Monday off by reviewing that place values to the right of a given place have a value that is 1/10 as big, and values to the left get 10 times bigger. Tuesday we will have review stations to practice all of the skills we have learned in unit 1, and Wednesday will be our first unit test of the year. Thursday we will begin unit 2 by practicing prime factorization and learning about prime and composite numbers. Friday we will end the week by working with exponents. Keep up the hard work in math fifth graders!
Thank you for your support and have a wonderful week!
Mrs. Eby 🙂
