Week of October 21st…

Hi, Martic 5th Grade Families,

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend! Here are some ways, throughout the week, that we will be s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g and strengthening our brains in order to make them STRONGER!!!

Curriculum News:

Reading:  Today in reading, we wrapped up one of our Non-Fiction text structures’ activities that we began last Friday.  Tuesday and Wednesday, we will be reading and analyzing a couple of different articles in order to identify their Non-Fiction text structures.  Thursday, we will be introduced to our new robust vocabulary words and do activities with them so that their meanings stay in our longterm memories for the reading of our next passage.  Friday, we will begin reading, analyzing, and identifying the different types of Non-Fiction text structures within our next passage.  It is an Expository Non-Fiction piece. Keep staying in a growth mindset, everyone… You Rock!

Spelling: Your child received her/his spelling homework packet today. He/she is aware that the packet is due on Thursday and our test is on Friday. Please continue to give your child a practice test on Thursday night. Thanks!

Math: This week in math, we are moving on to our fourth unit of the year which is all about dividing by 2 digit divisors. Monday we learned how to estimate a quotient with the extra digit in the divisor, and Tuesday we will work on solving division problems using the traditional method from the last unit. On Wednesday we will practice the Big 7 strategy again with 2 digit divisors. Thursday we will take our unit 4 quiz, and on Friday we will practice dividing with larger dividends. Keep up the hard work in math 5th grade!

Reminders:

This Friday, October 25th, the children will be dismissed at 1:30.

Thank you for your support, and have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
