Week of November 4th…

Hi, Martic 5th Grade Families,

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend! Here are some activities that we will be engaged in, this week, to help our brains become STRONGER!

Curriculum News:

Reding: Hopefully, by the end of last week, your child shared with you how hard they had practiced and how well they performed their readers’ theater with their group.  The students did an outstanding job of cooperating while working on their fluency!!! Today, we reviewed our robust vocabulary and began to read, analyze, and identify an expository nonfiction’s different types of text structures. We will continue with this activity tomorrow and Wednesday. The most predominant text structure that we have noticed, thus far, is cause and effect.  Thursday and Friday, we will do some review vocabulary activities, as well as review identifying cause and effect relationships.  These will prepare us to complete an independent vocabulary and cause and effect activity successfully by the end of the week.

Spelling: We are not covering a spelling unit this week. Thus, your child doesn’t have a spelling homework packet due on Thursday or a test on Friday!

Math: This week in math, we are picking up where we left off last week in unit 5. Monday we worked on applying the rounding of decimals to estimating sums and differences of 2 decimal numbers. Tuesday we will practice adding decimals, and really focus on lining up the place values correctly before finding the sum. Wednesday we will review the 3 properties of addition from past years, and take our unit 5 quiz. Thursday we will have review stations to work on everything we’ve covered so far, as well as reviewing the quiz. Friday we will end the week with working on subtracting decimal numbers. Keep up the hard work in math 5th grade!

Reminders:

The children get dismissed at 1:30 this Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday due to conferences.

Thanks so much for your support, and have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
