Week of December 9th…

Hello Everyone,

I hope you all had an enjoyable weekend! I want to apologize for my typographical error in my introduction last week. Here are a few ways that we’ll be stretching and strengthening our brains this week!

Curriculum News:

Reading:  Today in reading, we did a “Buddy Study” in order to review our vocabulary words and then independently completed our vocabulary activity using context clues.  We also got started on a main idea and details independent activity which we will finish tomorrow. After finishing that, we will begin reading an interview with Jordan Romero who is the youngest person ever to climb the Seven Summits. As we’re reading, we’ll identify the main idea of the different sections of the text using key details as support. Next, we’ll mark up and restate a TDA prompt based on this interview. Finally, we will compare and contrast two different nonfiction passages in order to identify how different text features are used in each.

Spelling: Your child received their spelling homework packet today. She/he knows that it is due on Thursday and that our test is on Friday.

Math: This week in math, we will start off Monday with writing numeric expressions based on a given word problem. On Tuesday we will take a pause on unit 7, and complete the second math benchmark test of the year, which reviews units 4-6. On Wednesday we will work on identifying and extending number patterns, incorporating function tables into the lesson as well. On Thursday we will start with a review of order of operations, numeric expressions, and patterns, then take our unit 7 quiz. Friday we will begin learning about ordered pairs, which will carry into next week as well. Keep up the hard work in math 5th grade!

Thank you for your support and have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
