Week of December 16th…

Hi, Martic 5th Grade Families,

I hope you all had a great and relaxing weekend! Keep reading to find out some of the activities that we’ll be doing this week that will help to stretch our brains and make them STRONGER!

Curriculum News:

Reading:  Today in reading, we worked with a TDA prompt independently.  Tomorrow, we will be introduced to our new robust vocabulary. We’ll work in small groups to use our prior knowledge and context clues to predict and confirm their meanings.  Wednesday, we will read and discuss a narrative nonfiction passage that contains our new vocabulary words.  On Thursday, we’ll do a “close” reading activity with the lyrics from a few holiday songs. Friday, we will wrap up our week by having our traditional 5th grade Read in! Keep staying in a growth mindset 5th graders!  You’re doing great!!!

Spelling: 5th grade is not doing a spelling unit this week.

Math: This week in math we will begin Monday with a review of all the skills we have covered so far in unit 7: order of operations, numeric expressions, patterns, and plotting ordered pairs. Tuesday we will take what we learned about ordered pairs and practice plotting a pattern based on an in and out table. Wednesday we will have review stations for everything we covered in unit 7, and Thursday we will hopefully be taking the final test for unit 7. Keep up the hard work in math 5th grade!

Reminders:

Friday, 12/20: We are having our 5th grade Read In! Your child was told today that they can wear pajama bottoms with a sweatshirt or t-shirt and bring slippers to wear if they want to. Here is what they may bring: books, sleeping bag, blanket, and a pillow. We will spread out around the room and READ, READ, READ!!!

Friday, 12/20: Children are dismissed at 1:30

School is not in session Monday, 12/23-Wednesday, 1/1/20.

Have a wonderful week, Christmas, and New Year! Thank you for your support!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
