Week of January 6th…

Hello Everyone,

Happy New Year, and welcome back to our first full week of school since winter break! Here are a few ways that we will stretch and strengthen our brains this week in 5th grade.

Curriculum News:

Reading: This week in reading, we will be reading short, fictional texts and determining the theme of each based on the details in the stories.  We will also identify a character’s qualities, actions, and motives and discuss how they affect the theme.

Spelling: Your child received his/her spelling homework packet today and knows that it is due on Thursday. She/he is also aware that our spelling test will be on Friday.

Math: This week in math we will begin Monday with applying greatest common factor from Friday, to simplifying fractions. Tuesday we will have our unit 8 quiz, which will be on fractions as division, GCF, and simplifying fractions. We will also shift our focus to finding the least common multiple(LCM) of a set of numbers on Tuesday after the quiz. On Wednesday we will have stations to review what we have learned so far in unit 8, then move on to comparing fractions on Thursday. On Friday we will learn how to convert fractions to decimals, given a fraction that can be converted to tenths and hundredths. Keep up the hard work in math 5th grade!

Reminders:

Next Monday, January 13th, school is not in session for students.

Thank you for your support and have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
