Week of March 2, 2020

Hello Everyone,

I hope that you all had an enjoyable weekend! Here are some of the activities that we’re going to be doing this week in order to S-T-R-E-T-C-H and STRENGTHEN our brains!

Curriculum News:

Reading:  Today in reading,  we worked in teams to identify 3 “direct quotes” that we can use, as evidence, to show and support our answer in the introductory paragraph of our two-column notes.  Tomorrow, we will mark up the TDA prompt and begin, with a partner, to write our two-column notes (rough draft) TDA essay.  More than likely, we will use Wednesday and perhaps part of Thursday to complete this rough draft. Once the teams finish their rough drafts, they will then rewrite it into the five-paragraph TDA essay format.  The children are working diligently and collaboratively on this assignment as they continue to stay in a growth mindset!  Keep it up, fifth graders…YOU ROCK!!!

Spelling: Your child was given her/his spelling homework packet today. He/she knows that it is due on Thursday and that our test will be on Friday.

Math: This week in math we will pick up where we left off in unit 11. On Monday, the focus will be on converting customary capacity, where students will learn how to convert between fluid ounces, cups, pints, quarts, and gallons. Tuesday we will have review stations to practice all the customary conversions we have done so far this unit. Wednesday will be the unit quiz. Thursday we will change our focus to line plots, where we will put measurement data on a plot mainly as fractions. Friday we will end the week by working with converting metric length, with a focus on millimeters, centimeters, meters, and kilometers. Keep up the hard work in math fifth graders!

I do not have any reminders to share with you this week.

Thanks so much for your continuous support, and have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
