Week of September 28th…

Hi, Martic 5th Grade Families,

I hope that you all had a great weekend! Here is what is coming down the pike, this week, that will enable us to stretch our brains and make them stronger!

Curriculum News:

Reading:  We have completed reading our realistic fiction passage and analyzed it to identify the five main elements of fiction/ literature.  We will work through a comprehension activity to check our understanding of this text.  When we are finished with this, we will begin to identify a speaker’s or a narrator’s point of view/ perspective.  Keep up the excellent work readers and writers!  I know you’ll stay in a growth mindset, too!

In math, we are finishing up our place value unit. Students have been working very hard in the place value unit, especially on the 1/10 and 10 times the value problems. This concept can be confusing, I am very proud of how these mathematicians are persevering through each challenging problem! Students have also been working hard on their place value project, many have finished their project and have demonstrated that they can write numbers in word, standard, and expanded form. We will have our first math test in the coming week: Group B’s test will be on Friday, October 2nd and Group A’s test will be on Tuesday, October 6th. The night before the test students will be sent home with a review sheet for homework.

Spelling: This will be our third week of completing a spelling unit online. Group B children should be completing their spelling activities on Monday, and Group A children should be doing this on Thursday.

Reminders:

Pictures will be taken next week. Group A will be taken on Monday, 10/5 and Group B will be taken on Thursday, 10/8.

On Monday, 10/5, our special will be Art for the next 21 days.

Have a wonderful week, and thank you for your support!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
