Week of 11/8/21:

Hello, Martic 5th Grade Families!

I hope that you were all able to get out this past weekend and enjoy some of the beautiful fall weather! It’s hard to believe that we are into the second week of November already! Here’s what we’ve been up to and what’s coming down the pike.

Curriculum News:

Reading with Mrs. Eby:  Last week, we did quite a bit of work with identifying context clues that lead us to figure out the meaning of new words.  This was no easy feat!  Our 5th-grade readers and writers were resilient and tackled this rigorous activity with stamina and grit!  Way to go, and I know that you will all continue to stay in a growth mindset no matter what new challenges come your way!  This week, we have been busy reading, analyzing, and unpacking our thinking about Veterans’ Day passages.  We are building our background/prior knowledge for our field trip to the Veterans’ Day Ceremony in Millersville on Thursday.  We are all looking forward to this celebration and are grateful that we were asked to attend!

Spelling: Last week, 5th graders did not complete a spelling unit due to the short week. Yesterday, your child received their weekly homework packet. She/he knows that the packet is due on Thursday and our test is on Friday.

Math with Miss Miller: Fifth graders worked very hard during unit 4 and are keeping up the fantastic effort as we start our fifth unit: adding and subtracting decimals. So far, we have rounded and estimated decimals. This week we are moving into adding and subtracting decimals and learning the different addition properties. Keep up the fantastic work mathematicians!

Have a great rest of your week and thank you for your support!

Thanks,

Mrs. Eby 🙂
