Week of March 28th:

Hi Everyone,

I hope that you all had a relaxing weekend! My goodness, where did this freezing cold weather come from? Please keep reading to see some of the things that are coming down the pike this week in 5th grade! I know that you’ll keep staying in a growth mindset 5th graders… YOU ROCK!!!

Curriculum News:

Reading with Mrs. Eby: At the end of last week, we finished our read-aloud, The Thief Lord, and the students wrote about the most important life lesson (theme) that they learned while reading the novel.  Due to this added activity, Monday, we will begin working with our non-fiction passage entitled Leonardo’s Horse.  We’ll start learning its vocabulary, then move into reading and analyzing the piece as we identify its non-fiction text features along the way.  When we’ve completed this, we will begin to engage with a comprehension, vocabulary, and sequencing activity.  Way to stretch your brains, 5th graders, and make them stronger!

Spelling: Your child will receive a spelling homework packet on Monday. He/She knows that it is due on Thursday and that our test will be on Friday.

Math with Miss Miller: Wow! I cannot believe we are already in our twelfth unit of math  – geometry! Last week, we focused on classifying triangles and polygons. This week we will start out by classifying quadrilaterals and then move into solving the volume of regular and composite prisms.
This week, your child will bring home a few math homework problems each night. The homework will be due the next day – the due date is on each homework sheet. This unit is very vocabulary heavy and these problems will help keep those vocabulary words fresh in their minds. They will have fewer than five problems each night. Keep working hard fifth graders!

Thank you for your support and have a wonderful week!

Thanks,

Mrs. Eby 🙂
