Week of September 6th…

Hello, 5th-grade Martic families!

I hope that everyone had a lovely Labor Day weekend! Last week, we spent four days together kicking off the 2022/2023 school year! It was an exciting time and filled with “team building and getting to know you” activities! The children came today ready to hit the ground running!

Curriculum News:

Reading: Last week, we began our Growth Mindset Unit!  Our 5th-grade readers and writers learned the difference between being in a Growth Mindset versus a Fixed Mindset.  This week, we are learning to recognize when we are in a Fixed Mindset and strategies that we can use to slide into a Growth Mindset.  We also began to review figurative language/figures of speech and drawing inferences.  I know that everyone will continue to stretch their brains and make them a little bit stronger every day!  YOU ROCK!!!

Spelling: We will begin our first spelling unit next week, 9/12.

Math: Last week we started our first unit, place value! Fifth graders learned how to write whole numbers and decimals in word, standard, and expanded form. This week, we will continue practicing writing numbers in different ways, as well as comparing and ordering decimals. Fifth graders also started their first math project of the year – Math About Me! Keep working hard fabulous fifth graders!

Thank you for your support and have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
