Week of September 12th:

Hi, Everyone!

We hope that your week is off to a great start! Keep reading in order to find out what is coming down the pike in 5th grade this week!

Curriculum News:

Reading: We began our week by doing a lesson on the importance of September 11th by reading and discussing a couple of books.  One is entitled, “The Man Who walked Between the Towers” and “Fireboat’.  We also read a nonfiction passage about Patriots’ Day and analyzed it together.  Throughout the remainder of the week, 5th-grade readers and writers will continue to review figures of speech and their meaning.  They will also begin to work on using context clues to determine the meanings of unknown words.  Way to say in a growth mindset, everyone!!!

Spelling: Your child received her/his first spelling packet today. He/she knows that the completed homework packet is due this Thursday, Sept. 15th. She /he is also aware that our spelling test is this Friday, 9/16.

Math with Miss Miller: Mathematicians put their best effort forward last week when comparing and ordering decimals and whole numbers. This week we will wrap up unit 1. Your child will take their unit 1 math test on Thursday 9/15. The night before they will bring home a review sheet for unit 1. This will be due on Thursday. Please let me know if you have any questions. Keep up the great work fifth graders!

Have a wonderful week, and thank you for your support!

Thanks,

Mrs. Eby šŸ™‚
