Official Kids’ Heart Challenge Totals

Thank you to all families who were able to help my P.E. friends gather donations for such an incredibly important cause. And thank you to those of you who tried, but were unsuccessful. I greatly appreciate your efforts!

Here are this year’s official totals (I received confirmation e-mails from AHA today!) that our schools are have been able to contribute to the American Heart Association through the Kids’ Heart Challenge:

Eshleman – $3, 945.50
LeTort – $12, 011.45

As a result of meeting and beating their $12,000 goal, my friends at LeTort will have the pleasure of seeing me dress up as a unicorn for a day, and we will place Mrs. McPherson in a cage for a day!!! These dates are to remain secret. However, there will be photographic evidence provided! 😉

What an amazing job from EVERYONE involved! Here is a small message from our AHA Rep. It was addressed to me, but it is really for all of YOU:

“On behalf of the American Heart Association and the millions of Americans we serve, thank you very much for your schools’ donations. Families and schools are critical links in providing the foundation for cardiovascular wellness in our country. By holding this event at your schools each year, you raise awareness about heart-healthy living. And you help us fund more lifesaving scientific research and critically needed education efforts. Thank you. Almost every family in America is touched by heart disease or stroke, and your school’s contribution will significantly impact our fight against these devastating illnesses. We hope that you, your faculty and your students found this lifesaving effort rewarding and enjoyable. You are touching so many lives – and life is why we exist as an organization. Your help and support are greatly appreciated, and we look forward to partnering again with you next year!”

Thank you again, friends at Eshleman and LeTort… You seriously rock my world!

Kids’ Heart Challenge Update…

After one week of officially raising funds for the Kids’ Heart Challenge in conjunction with American Heart Association, we are off to a FLYER! As of 9:30pm on Thursday, February 7th:

LeTort has raised a total of $ 4,114
Eshleman has raised a total of $ 1,392

Keep up the great work, team!

THERE ARE THREE WEEKS REMAINING TO RAISE SOME FUNDS FOR THIS GREAT CAUSE!

For more information on AHA and the Kids’ Heart Challenge, please visit http://american.heart.org/kidsheartchallenge/for-parents/

We can make a big difference in the world around us, just by asking people to join us through making a small donation! BE BRAVE AND BE KIND, friends! Thanks so much for your support!

Superhero Quest

Our culminating activity for our winter workout unit was “Superhero Quest”. Our friends played a Monopoly-style game where they rolled dice to move around the game board. When they landed on a new spot, they paid rent to their superhero owner by performing a cardio / muscular strength or endurance exercise before moving on! Lots of hard work done over December and January! Enjoy this clip of 5-B at LeTort, working hard 💪🏻

EDIT: Unfortunately, it looks like the link is not working. If you would like to see it, please e-mail me directly at steven.mccabe@pennmanor.net and I will send it to you.

Kids’ Heart Challenge

We will again be raising money to help research and treat sick kids with special hearts. Each year, we partner with the American Heart Association for this great cause. Formerly known as “Jump Rope for Heart”, the Kids’ Heart Challenge takes the same format as in past years… Students raise funds, they earn cool “Thank you!” gifts, and we celebrate at the end of Heart Month (February) with a P.E. Party in their regular Phys. Ed. time slot.

This year, both Eshleman and LeTort are setting the bar HIGH…

Eshleman Goal – $11,000

LeTort Goal – $12,000

If we can meet out goal amounts, each school will surpass the $80,000 lifetime mark, which would be momentous – AND there will be an additional celebration involving Mr. McCabe and the principal of your school… More details to follow!

So, please register your student(s) online at heart.org/kidsheartchallenge, have your student (and you!) choose a HEART HEALTH CHALLENGE and begin our fundraising journey for 2019! You may also collect from friends and family members and return the collection envelope to school.

Donation Deadline – Thursday, February 28, 2019.

WE CAN DO THIS, PENN MANOR!

LeTort Open House

Please block out on your calendar the Letort Back to School Night.   It is scheduled for Wednesday, August 29th from 4:00-6:00 pm.   It is an open house format, so you can stop by any time during the two hour block.   Our new art teacher, Miss Anderson, will be in her classroom from 4:30-5:30 on that evening.   Please remember to stop by and say hello.

An open house format allows you some flexibility with your schedule and the option to spend as much time as you need in your child’s classroom. Please be mindful that all parents want to meet the teacher and say hello during their visit. Specific conversations about kids or curriculum would be better served by setting up an appointment with the teacher so they can individualize the conversation with you. Thank you for understanding and we look forward to your visit next week.

LeTort Summer Readers

A note for LeTort Summer Readers:

Please remember to return your Summer Reading Calendar on the first 3 days of school, (Thursday, Aug. 23, Friday, Aug. 24 or Monday, Aug. 27) to receive your Summer Reading Pool Party ticket for your family.  We will need all calendars returned as soon as possible this year. Our Summer Reading Pool Party is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 29 at 5:30-7:30 at Millersville Pool.  This event will be held Rain/Shine but will be canceled in the event of thunderstorms.  Looking forward to celebrating summer reading together at Millersville Pool!
