Third Marking Period Happenings

I can’t believe we are in the third marking period of the school year!

Here is what we are focusing on in each of the subject areas.

Math: We wrapped up our fractions unit today and will dive into our measurement chapter. We will be learning about capacity, mass and time intervals.

Reading: We are currently reading a work of fiction and then moving on to a readers theatre.

Social Studies: We are leaning about cultures from around the world! Each student is researching a different country. They are reading about the different languages, foods and holidays. I can’t wait for the kiddos to share what they have learned!

Writing: We are in the middle of researching and creating a website about a specific president.

12/14 Update

Here is what we are learning about this week in 3rd grade!

Math: We are wrapping up our last chapter on multiplication and division next week. We will be taking the assessment on Tuesday, December 18th. The kiddos are encouraged to continue practicing their facts at home!

Reading: We will be reading a work of fiction this week. Additionally, we will be identifying the plot in various stories.

Writing: We are composing another opinion piece on our favorite winter activity.

We finished our social studies unit on Lancaster County and will be directing our attention to science.

11/27 Update

I hope everyone had a restful and memorable holiday break with family and friends. I am so thankful for the welcoming return to Martic;  as I  am eager to continue this educational journey with your child.

Here is what we are learning this week!

Math: We are continuing practicing our multiplication facts. In your child’s folder you will find “ice cream” math facts.  The kiddos are encouraged to practice their facts at home!

Reading: We will be performing a readers theatre this week with our classmates. In addition, we will be learning new robust vocabulary and reviewing various focus skills such as main idea.

Writing: Today we began an opinion piece on our favorite food. We will utilize the writing process as a framework for our essays.

Social Studies: Last week we began our unit on Lancaster County. We will learn about important people and places that shape our wonderful county.

Rain, rain, go away..

Hello families! We’re not letting a little rain get in the way of us learning! Here is a quick update for this week.

Reading-  We read a work of realistic nonfiction last week. We will review the setting, characters and robust vocabulary words. We will have a robust vocabulary quiz on Wednesday. The kiddos are encouraged to read their words every night!

Math- We started Chapter 2: Addition today.

Social Studies- We are learning the continents and oceans. Click here for a fun video about the continents.

9/4 Update

I hope everyone had an enjoyable Labor Day Weekend! Here is what we are working on this week!

Math- Rounding to the tens and hundreds. We will have our first math test this Friday!

Reading- Our next story will be a work of realistic fiction. Be on the look out for new robust vocabulary words in your kiddos folder. We are also learning new test taking strategies in third grade.
