Here are a few reminders:
*Please consider sending in some labels for our Race for Education. This is our PTO’s only fund raiser. Even five labels would help. Thanks in advance for your consideration! Labels are due February 25.
*Since we missed spelling last week, we WILL be having a spelling list this week – Lesson 18.

Reading: We will be reading our next fiction selection, Firestorm. Our focus skill is inferencing/drawing conclusions.
Writing: Verb lessons continue taught by Miss Cain. We are also continuing our paragraph writing practice!
Spelling: Lesson 18 will be distributed on Tuesday. The test will be on Friday, February 22.

February 11-15

It’s Valentine’s Day Week! We will exchange valentines on Thursday. This is completely voluntary. All I ask is that if your child participates in the exchange, they provide one for every member of the class. I sent home a class list with the students last week.
On another note, please don’t forget to send in address labels for our annual Race for Education fund raiser. This is the only fund raiser for the PTO. We need your help for it to be successful!
Congratulations to our 4th grade Math Bowl team, Wes Groff, Miles Fetter, Anupama Neopany, and Micah Cruz! This awesome group of mathematicians took first place in the competition last Thursday! Way to go team!

Reading: We spent quite a bit of time this past week expanding our TDA essay writing to include the analysis piece. The kids have been doing an awesome job with this, and I am so proud of them!
Writing: We continue our verb lessons taught by Miss Cain. We are also continuing our paragraph writing practice!
Spelling: Lesson 18 will be distributed tomorrow. The test will be on Friday, February 15. There will be no spelling list the week of 2/18 due to the short week.

February 4-8

What a crazy week! Because of the snow day Thursday, school is now in session on Friday, February 15. Monday, February 18 will remain a vacation day. Looking forward to some warmer days in the coming week!

Reading: We continue Unit 4: Understanding Elements of Fiction. We read an excerpt from Because of Winn-Dixie this past week and will continue to study character traits and story elements in this piece of literature.
Writing: We have now covered all three verb tenses and have learned about linking verbs. These lessons are being taught by Miss Cain.
Spelling: Lesson 17 will be distributed on Monday, 2/4. The test will be on Friday, February 8.

January 28-February 1

Reading: We will begin Unit 4: Understanding Elements of Fiction. This unit includes a review of the previous story elements we have learned, plus point of view and making inferences in our reading. We will also be reading some awesome fiction stories!
Writing: What is the difference between present and past tense verbs? Ask your favorite fourth grader!
Spelling: Lesson 16 will be distributed on Monday, 1/28. The test will be on Friday, February 1.
Social Studies: We will continue our PA Geography/Map Skills unit with a study of the Pennsylvania regions.

January 21-25

We are now beginning the second semester (third marking period) of the 2018-2019 school year. There is a lot of learning left to be done in fourth grade!

Reading: After doing some TDA activities this week, we will begin Unit 4: Understanding Elements of Fiction. This unit includes a review of the previous story elements we have learned, plus point of view and making inferences in our reading.
Writing: Verbs will be our grammar focus as we continue to perfect our paragraph writing.
Spelling: No list this week! We will resume spelling the week of 1/28 with Lesson 16.
Social Studies: We will continue our PA Geography/Map Skills unit.

January 2-4

I hope everyone had a great holiday! It’s nice to have time with family and for the kids to have time to play and charge up those batteries!
We had a wonderful time visiting the preschool class before the break. The students loved giving their book gifts, and the little ones enjoyed receiving them. It was so much fun watching them interact with one another! I will be posting pictures soon, so stay tuned!
