Penn Manor’s throws squad has been dominant throughout the LL-League for quite some time and it seems as though the future is bright for this young squad. With SEVEN freshmen, TEN sophomores, TWELVE juniors and only TWO seniors, it is exciting to think of how far training for the next few years will take us.
GARDEN SPOT: The Start of a New Era for PMT
The young throws squad made a strong first performance as they begin to build the future of PM Throwers. Because this is a scrimmage, no points or qualifications can be earned; however, athletes did earn new personal records!
Senior LUIS MARCELINO threw a new PERSONAL BEST and what would have been a LEAGUE-QUALIFYING mark if not a scrimmage of 157’8″ to get first. Junior NATE BINKLEY threw 133’10”. New thrower, junior MATT PEAK threw 117’4″.
TWO athletes threw for their first varsity meet today and BOTH had top three finishes! Sophomore DREW MYERS threw 104’2″, enough to earn him FIRST place. Right behind him was freshman RYAN ATKINSON with a throw of 96’7″ to earn third place. Let me reiterate that RYAN is a FRESHMAN. Sophomore BRENT NEELY was just NINE inches off of his personal best from last year. During warm-ups, he threw over 100 feet and is excited to do so at the next meet! Hard work pays off! In exhibition, DENNIS TORBERT threw a personal best of 83’1″ and NATE LEWIS threw a personal best of 90’5″.
BOYS SHOT PUT
Another successful event for our young throwers. It was a close race between our boy throwers (3.5″ to be exact). Earning THIRD place overall was junior, ADRIAN ZOTTI, with a new personal best of 36’9″. Right behind him was junior, WILL DUNFORD with a personal best of 36’7.5″, and following closely behind him was sophomore DREW MYERS, with a throw of 36’5.75″. Also with notable performances, freshman RYAN ATKINSON threw a 34’10” in his first varsity meet.
Freshman, JASMINE TORRES and sophomore, BETSEY WENGER had the best outing for the girls. In their first varsity meet, they both threw 72’8″.

Two Lady Comets made it to the finals for each of the throwing events. Blue Streak Relays: Track is NOT Just an Individual Sport
BOYS & GIRLS DISCUS
The THROWERS represented Penn Manor at the Blue Streaks Relays this year. Ceasing the opportunity to throw some more personal bests, four discus throwers hitched up to Manheim Township with only a few minor missed turns and exits (cough, cough Coach Ben). The meet is unique due to the fact that they add up the distances of both of the team members to find the places. It proves that you need a solid team to be great and we are confident that we have one!
Competing first, was the pair of sophomore, BETSEY WENGER and junior, KATIE STRINGER. Katie had a solid throw of 97’3″ and overall the girls finished 7th.
