Media Immersion Day at Misericordia University

Do you have an interest in a media-related career? Would you like the opportunity to learn about the field AND practice producing a real media piece? If so, join the Department of Mass Communications and Design at Misericordia University on Monday, March 4, 2019 from 9am-1pm for a day of learning and experience. You will have the opportunity to learn about newspaper writing and reporting, video production and editing, graphic design and production, and photojournalism and DSLR camera skills. These workshops are free to attend and include breakfast and lunch. Attending this event can also be used as the career shadowing component of your graduation project. Understanding College Series at York College of Pennsylvania

Students: Are you looking for some guidance on topics such as choosing a college major and financial aid? Parents: Are you looking for some clarification about what it’s like to have your student go off to college? If so, the Understanding College Series, held at York College of Pennsylvania, may be a great place to start. A financial literacy night will be held on Dec. 6 at 7pm, and will include financial information delivered by representatives from PHEAA and PNC Bank. Topics such as finding private scholarships, opening a checking account, and other financial-related topics a college freshman should know about will be addressed. Academic Possibilities Night will be held on Feb. 28 from 7-8:30pm, and undeclared students or students who don’t have a clear idea of what major they want to pursue yet are highly encouraged to register! College Information Event with Columbia, Swarthmore, SUNY Binghamton, and U of Maryland

Columbia University, Swarthmore College, SUNY Binghamton and the University of Maryland will be traveling together in Southern Pennsylvania to meet with students, families and counselors. As members of the Coalition for College, they will be discussing resources and tools offered by the Coalition as well as sharing general admissions information and financial aid policies about each institution. Kutztown University’s Design Day Camp

Are you a sophomore, junior, or senior interested in a graphic design career after high school? Check out Kutztown University’s one day, hands-on design camp, which will take place Saturday November 3rd. You will learn the creative design process through hands-on graphic design and interactive design challenges. Did you know Kutztown University’s Communication Design’s (KUCD) BFA program is the preferred degree as stipulated by the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD)? Communication Design is both Middle States and NASAD accredited. The Communication Design Department has the largest number of majors within the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Kutztown University and the Department attracts students from all over the eastern United States as well as from places as far away as China, India, Japan, Iran, Kenya and Germany. 12 permanent full-time faculty members ensure that students get a consistent, guided and mentored design education.

HACC Health Careers Day

Are you interested in a health-related career after high school? HACC is holding a Health Careers Exploration Day on October 12th from 9am-1pm (lunch is provided). The location is East 203 on the Lancaster campus. This annual event is designed for high school students who are truly interested in pursuing a career in healthcare. You will learn about various health-related careers including: Cardio-Vascular Technology (both Sonography and Invasive), Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene, Nursing (both LPN and RN), Radiologic Technology and Radiology Informatics, Surgical Technology, and Wellness and Health Promotion (for students interested in working as Health Educators or Wellness Coaches). 

You will also have opportunities to speak directly with the program directors and participate in interactive demonstrations in HACC’s state-of-the-art labs! This has been a popular event in the past, so RSVP as soon as you can! Please RSVP to Marcia Waters by October 3rd. You can reach her at 717-358-2997 or mswaters@hacc.edu. You will need to coordinate your own transportation, as this will not be a field trip through PMHS. Please get an excuse from your parent/guardian if you plan to attend. Kutztown University Application Fee Waivers

If you are interested in attending Kutztown after graduation, now is the time to apply! You have until  November 15, 2018 to use a fee waiver to complete your application; this will save you $35! At the end of your application, you must insert the application fee waiver code GOLDEN. Visit https://www.kutztown.edu/admissions/apply-today.htm to apply. KU can typically provide a decision within a week of receiving your transcript and test scores. 

In addition, more than 80% of Kutztown University students receive financial aid. They offer more than 500 awards, and there is no separate scholarship application.  All students who are admitted are automatically considered for merit-based scholarships.  These scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, so make sure to take advantage of KU’s rolling admissions process and apply early! Fall ASVAB Information

Juniors & Seniors,

The fall ASVAB will be held on Wednesday, October 10th. The test will be administered at Penn Manor High School and will begin at 7:40 am. You do not need to bring anything with you to the exam room, all testing materials will be provided. Please listen to announcements for the ASVAB room location.
The ASVAB is a test used for military entrance as well as for further career development. The ASVAB has eight test areas: General Science, Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, Mathematics Knowledge, Electronics Information, Auto and Shop Information and Mechanical Comprehension. The test will help you identify your skills in various areas and link them to careers of your interest.

Young Women’s Seminar Opportunity through Millersville University

Are you a female junior or senior student? Are you interested in a career in STEM or graphic communications? We Want YOU! is a seminar for young women being held on Thursday, October 4, 2018, from 5:30–8:30pm, at Millersville University in Osburn Hall, Room 200. It includes dinner, a hands-on activity, and information about: technical careers for women in graphics and teaching technology & engineering, job prospects in graphic communication and technology & engineering education, and information on how to get started with one of Millersville University’s degree programs. The deadline to register is ThursdaySeptember 20.
