October 2016 Monthly Mathlete

This award is given to one career prep student, one college prep student, and one honors student every month. These students are nominated and chosen by the Math Department on the basis of their hard work and leadership in the math classroom. They will have their pictures posted in the Math Wing for the month and will each receive a coupon for a free MTO at Sheetz.

Josiah Edwards has been chosen for this honor because his quiet leadership in the classroom, willingness to work with any student and ability to rise above negative behavior of others is commendable. He consistently completes classwork and homework, and has achieved academic success in the course Intro Algebra 1A as a result. He also sets a positive example for others in the room. His teacher has been very impressed with his ability to keep up with coursework, while competing as a varsity football player. Josiah clearly prioritizes his time well and is a privilege to have in the math classroom.

Mackenzie Mayzum was chosen as a Mathlete due to a variety of her strong leadership and academic attributes.  She consistently performs well on tests and quizzes, while always completing her assigned homework and classwork.  She recently went above and beyond with her ALEKS work, completing over 30 topics last week to complete her ALEKS pie.   She is a frequent participant in class discussions, and she is always willing to help out her fellow classmates.  Thank you, Mackenzie, for always bringing this positive energy to your class!

Ryan Glenn has done a great job so far in Honors Math Analysis.  Not only has he scored well on his assignments and earned an A for the first marking period, but he also volunteers frequently in class and works well with his peers. He is very strong mathematically and is a logical thinker.  Keep up the good work, Ryan!
