The Monthly Mathlete award is given to a number math students every month from various levels of math classes. These students are nominated and chosen by the Math Department on the basis of their hard work and leadership in the math classroom. They will be recognized by having their pictures posted in the Math Wing for the month, as well as here on our blog.
Bhawana Timsina was selected for this award as a result of her hard work and perseverance as she solves problems in Algebra 2. She completes her assignments faithfully and accurately, asking questions when she has them. Whenever she is given the option, she goes above and beyond to ensure that she understands the concepts that are being taught in class. She also works well alongside other students to help her group achieve its best. Because of her dedication and effort, she scored the highest grade in her class for the first marking period. Kyle Smith was chosen for this award because of his hard work and dedication to his course work. He has showed that he is a student of mathematics, not just a student of the classroom, working hard for more than just a grade. He strives to know the concept behind each process, and he has distinguished himself as a hard working student. His class participation and the way he helps others understand topics has not gone unnoticed. Congratulations, Kyle! Continue to push yourself to become a great learner!
Brooke Johnson was selected for this award because of the positive influence that she has on her math class. She is a bright, hardworking, and conscientious student. She always completes her work, excels on tests and quizzes, and goes above and beyond to help out her peers. All of these characteristics ultimately earned her the highest grade in her class for the first marking period. She truly seems to enjoy learning and is a pleasure to have in class.
Peyton Witmer was chosen because of his incredible work ethic, maturity, willingness to volunteer, helpfulness and his friendly attitude. He has distinguished himself from his peers because of all of these attributes. Since day one, he has modeled student behaviors that have led to a successful semester in math. His high marks on all assignments are a reflection of his dedication and enjoyment of math. He is also very well-rounded outside the academic sphere. With all this in mind, there is no doubt that he can be as successful in football as he is in the classroom!
Joshua Oatman was selected for this award as a result of his hard work and dedication in CP Algebra 2. He completes his assignments consistently and accurately, asking questions when he has them. Whenever he is given the opportunity, he goes above and beyond to ensure that he understands the concepts that are being taught. His willingness to always volunteer in class in greatly appreciated by his teacher. He is also a great team member as he works well alongside other students to help his group achieve its best. Andrea Kirkley is receiving this award due to her commendable hard work and effort in the class. She finishes every assignment quickly and accurately. She utilizes the Google classroom to verify that she did everything on the practice assignments correctly. She perseveres through difficult problems and checks her work each time. Andrea works well with other students in the class and contributes to everyone’s learning by volunteering regularly. Her teacher is proud of her accomplishments on graded assignments, exams, and on the PAML competition, as well as the way that she didn’t let a broken finger slow her down!
