April Mathlete

This award is given to one career prep student, one college prep student, and one honors student every month. These students are nominated and chosen by the Math Department on the basis of their hard work and leadership in the math classroom. They will have their pictures posted in the Math Wing for the month and will each receive a coupon for a free MTO at Sheetz.

Nam Supakosol is being recognized as a result of her great work ethic in the classroom and when completing homework.  She participates in class by regularly volunteering answers as well as asking insightful questions.  She works well with other students and has a positive attitude.  She is one of the first students done with her work and always with great accuracy.  Keep up the hard work, Nam!

Meaghan Rossi is receiving this award in CP Geometry as a result of her hard work and dedication to learning in class. She eagerly accepts challenges, and she always pushes herself to go beyond the required assignments to gain a better understanding of the material covered in class. Her assignments are always submitted early or on time, and she is always willing to help her classmates when they have questions. If she continues to strive in this manner in all her endeavors, there is little she won’t be able to accomplish!

Danielle Heisey is receiving this award because she is a quiet leader in Honors Calculus. She always has her homework done, she asks insightful questions, and she has a solid understanding of the course content. Her teacher especially appreciates how she is willing to work with all students in the class, regardless of their ability and is very grateful. Her teacher has great confidence in her ability to be successful in BC Calculus next year.

 

 

 

 

March Mathlete

Jared Stephan is receiving this award because he has done a great job so far in Honors Math Analysis.  He is very strong mathematically and is a very analytical thinker.  Not only has he scored well on his assignments and will earn an A average for the third marking period, but he also volunteers frequently in class and works well with his peers.  Most importantly, he consistently keeps a positive attitude.  Keep up the good work, Jared!

Tom Aston is receiving this award because he has been a great student in class, and his teacher greatly appreciates his hard work and commitment to class. He always participates, answers questions, and helps keep the class moving along. He has done a great job coming to class each day and putting in hard work, and it has paid off with his excellent grade for marking period 3. He gets along great with everyone and always seems to have a good time in class. His teacher also really looks forward to his awesome team names or Kahoot names whenever they have class competitions! Keep up the good work Tom, and congratulations!

Dallas Shackelford has earned this award as a result of his effort and responsibility that makes him stand out from his peers and is evident in his work.   Weekly reviews and classwork assignments are always completed with his best effort and on time.   If friends are off task in class, the teacher can always count on him to make the mature choice to not join in but to continue working hard toward meeting his goals.  Throughout the semester, there has been much mathematical growth in his thinking, and he has become a strong math student.  On the last test, he earned the highest score of his class.  His teacher is so proud of him for the choices he is making and for his effort in school.  His hard work is paying off.

February Mathlete

This award is given to one career prep student, one college prep student, and one honors student every month. Morgan Hackart is being recognized with this award because she is a quiet leader in CP Algebra 1B. She consistently has her homework and ALEKs completed, and she demonstrates intuitive thinking during class discussion. In one instance, she asked if substitution could be used to solve a system, even though her class was taking notes on elimination. This was keen insight her part. She did an awesome job on the Data Analysis Unit test.  She is very willing to work with others and shared with her teacher that she has participated in cross country. What is most impressive is that she is new to Penn Manor, having started here at the High School in the second marking period. Keep up the great work, Morgan!

Kaden Peart is being recognized because of his outstanding work in Honors Geometry. He hasn’t missed a point yet on any tests, quizzes, or assignments.  Not only is he super smart, but he also volunteers a lot, contributing greatly to class discussions and group work. He is helpful to his classmates and is very polite and respectful towards everyone.  Great job, Kaden!

Austin Kolb is being awarded as our Mathlete in the career path because the characteristics he displays in the classroom are that of a model student.  He is very hard working, responsible and self-sufficient.  When he has a question or needs clarification, he never hesitates to raise his hand and ask.  His peers have also displayed a sense of comfort in asking him for help.  He is a pleasure to have in class and is well deserving of this award!  Congratulations, Austin!

January Mathletes!

Matthew Rafter has been selected for this award because his work ethic this semester has been outstanding.  His attitude towards challenging problems and difficult task demonstrated the true definitions of grit and resilience.  His assignments were turned in on time, and he never missed a week of ALEKS.  His exceptional efforts showed through in his assessments helping him finish Intro Algebra A with the highest average in class for the second marking period.

Juan Lucas Rizo-Patron is receiving this award because he displayed a great work ethic and exceptional academic ability during the fall semester. He earned “A” averages on all test, quiz, homework, and ALEKS assignments.  This type of performance helped make him a standout star amongst his peers in CP Algebra 1.  This type of effort will help him to be successful in all his future classes.  His teacher thanks him for being a leader and positive influence for your classmates.

Rachel Collison was chosen for this award based on her “off the chart” performance in Honors Geometry/Trigonometry fall semester 2016-2017.  Her teacher has been teaching HGT for 15 years, and she is the first student to achieve a 100% across the board, for each of the marking periods and on the final exam!  That is an amazing accomplishment.  It will be exciting to see what her math future holds.  Good luck in the spring semester and beyond, Rachel!

December Monthly Mathlete

Nikki Krahulik is receiving this reward because she has done an amazing job this semester in Honors Math Analysis.  She has a great attitude, and she volunteers answers and insight frequently.  She is also one of the top three or four students on almost every test that her class has taken.  She has proved to be one of the strongest students in the class, earning an A average for both the first and second marking periods.  Keep up the great work!

Emily Bailey is receiving this award for her awesome effort and conscientious work in College Prep Geometry-Trig.  When she has had to miss school, she has done an amazing job getting caught up on her lessons and school work.  She is intuitive and picks up new concepts very quickly.  Her assignments are always very neat, she does a great job checking her work, and she is always so sweet and respectful.  It is impressive how quickly she works and how focused she is in class.  Keep up the great work, Emily!

Matthew Baldwin is receiving this reward as a result of his hard work and perseverance in math class. His diligence in completing assignments accurately and on time and his commitment to learning sets an excellent example for his classmates. He always makes himself available to help his peers and answer their questions, and he takes ownership of his own learning by making sure that he understands a concept fully, even if it means working past the bell. He asks great questions to ensure that he understands the reasons behind the algorithms so that he not only knows how to do a problem, but why each step is done. Emilee Ney is receiving this award because of her work ethic, curiosity and desire to learn that have brought her to where she is today. It has been her teacher’s pleasure to watch her grow as a student since the beginning of the school year.  She has made great accomplishments in math as she has grown from taking college preparatory courses to Advanced Placement Calculus AB. It is evident that she is a student who strives for success, and her teacher looks forward to continuing to work with her this school year as she continues to grow and strengthen her skills in AP Calculus.

Kirializ Guzman is receiving this award as a result of her hard work, her attention to detail, and her commitment to learning. Piece-wise functions, Symmetry, Transformations and Rational Functions are just a few of the Precalculus topics that she has completely mastered this semester! Her work is always neat, precise, and 97% of the time correct. Even when she misses a class, she is always caught up before the end of the next block. Her teacher truly appreciates her effort and wishes her the best of luck as she graduates from Penn Manor this year.

Rylee Leakway is receiving this award because she is a great student who is willing to work hard on her own and with others. Her teachers can always count on her to volunteer an answer or come to the board to show and explain her work. She is constantly wanting to make sure she is doing the problems correct and asking for help. Her teachers don’t have to worry about her working with a small group because she gets along so well with everyone. Josiah Edwards has been chosen for this honor because his quiet leadership in the classroom, willingness to work with any student and ability to rise above negative behavior of others is commendable. He consistently completes classwork and homework, and has achieved academic success in the course Intro Algebra 1A as a result. He also sets a positive example for others in the room. His teacher has been very impressed with his ability to keep up with coursework, while competing as a varsity football player. Josiah clearly prioritizes his time well and is a privilege to have in the math classroom.

Mackenzie Mayzum was chosen as a Mathlete due to a variety of her strong leadership and academic attributes.  She consistently performs well on tests and quizzes, while always completing her assigned homework and classwork.  She recently went above and beyond with her ALEKS work, completing over 30 topics last week to complete her ALEKS pie.   She is a frequent participant in class discussions, and she is always willing to help out her fellow classmates.  Thank you, Mackenzie, for always bringing this positive energy to your class!

Hornberger

Briana Hornberger is receiving this award because she has performed an extremely high level from the start of AP Calculus AB. Her intelligence, math instincts and problem solving abilities are exceptional. She has scored in the top five on every assessment her class has taken, and has distinguished yourself as the academic leader of her calculus class. Her excellence has not faltered through the course of the year, and she will go down as one of the strongest calculus AB students Mr. Carrodo has ever taught. In addition to her math ability, she has consistently displayed high character and a strong work ethic.  She comes to class every day ready to learn and prepared to work. She has been polite, respectful, pleasant, and motivated.  Her teacher has truly enjoyed getting to know her this year and watching her have so much success with calculus!

Jasmine Lee

Jasmine Lee is receiving this award because she is always working diligently to get her assignments in math class completed correctly and submitted on time.  Every week she advocates for her education by signing up to attend homeroom tutoring, as well as asking questions and answering questions in class.  It is evident that she has a love for learning and that she enjoys math.  Jasmine pushes herself to achieve her goals every day, and she is always willing to help others.  She should be so proud of all of the math skills she has mastered this semester.  Her teacher is very proud of her hard work and dedication in CP Algebra 2.  Keep up the great work, Jasmine, and remember what your goals are – you will be able to reach them!

Jenna Flatley was specifically chosen because of the great attitude that she brings to class on a daily basis. Not only did she earn the highest average for the third marking period but she also does a fantastic job of volunteering in class and helping her classmates if they have an individual question. Jenna completes all assignments with accuracy and enthusiasm and can be counted on to have a smile or share a joke. Jenna is also involved with the field hockey program and is equally dedicated to both her studies and athletics. Fadimah Al Qudsi has been chosen because her effort in class is outstanding.  Her teachers appreciate all the time she puts into her homework, classwork, Aleks, and Weekly Review assignments.  Not only does her work completion stand out, but so does her desire to understand concepts. Her teachers are honored to be a part of your education and have really enjoyed witnessing your learning strategies, especially with word problems and interpreting directions. Emilee Ney’s advancement from the college prep track to Honors Calculus this year is to be commended. She is receiving this award because she consistently does all assigned homework, advocates for herself when she does not understand a question, and is willing to work with others, often explaining how to use a Calculus technique. Emilee’s diligence during her entire Penn Manor math career has been an example to her peers. Her desire to become a meteorologist and recognition that Calculus is integral to the meteorology curriculum reflects her academic maturity. Way to go, Emilee!

Wesley

Caeleb Wesley is receiving this award because he is always working diligently to get your assignments in math class completed correctly and submitted prior to the due date. Everyday he puts forth his best effort to understand the new topics.  Every week he advocates for his own education by completing more than the required ALEKS topics and completing his weekly reviews.  He always checks about review problems that he is unsure of in order to ensure that he is maintaining the skills he has already learned.  He is a classroom leader, and he does a great job helping others by serving as a peer tutor in class!  He should be so proud of all of the math skills he has mastered this semester.  His teachers are very proud of his hard work and dedication in Intro Algebra B.  Keep up the great work, Caeleb!
