Our meeting on April 4th is a day that you are required to go to homeroom to show your teacher that you have completed your graduation project. Tell your teacher that you have an NHS meeting and must go first. Report to the meeting immediately after so you are not marked down as a club cut.
All members must bring a food item to the next club meeting on April 4th for our PowerPacks Fundraiser. Appreciated items include:
Mac and cheese
Canned pasta (spaghetti O’s, beefaroni, etc)
Canned meats (tuna, chicken, assorted beans)
Willow Street Mennonite Church is looking for Volunteers to help with a Feed My Starving Children Mobile Pack. Friday March 29-Sunday March 31. The following site should be used to sign up. Recommend that groups of NHS members get together to do this at the same 2 hour shifts.
Shift sign up and ticket distribution will occur at the Thursday, March 7th homeroom meeting. All profits will support Power Packs program in the Penn Manor School District. This is a required NHS event. You must contact Mrs. Myers or Mrs. Henderson in advance if you have a school related conflict.
Volunteers are needed to help with childcare during PTO meetings at Eshleman Elementary School on:
Monday, May 6th from 6:15 to 7:45.

Volunteer for Pool Clean-up: Ray Gerner
Two work dates we will be having in April down at the Millersville Lions Club Pool. The first date will be Saturday April 13th at 7:00 AM. We will be picking up twigs in the pool yard, walking over the entire property looking for any trash, moving the pool benches out from under the snack bar awning, cleaning the bathrooms, snack bar area, hanging pool banners on the fence and etc. This will be more a ” general day ” to get some things done. The next scheduled work day is April 27th at the will start at 7:00 AM. That day will include scrubbing down the pool, painting the gutters, pressure washing the play set, raking out the sand area in the playground and mulching and weeding the flowerbeds.

The Lancaster Public Library is looking for some teen volunteers who
would be willing to help out in various areas, such as shelving, straightening, and forming a Tween/Teen Advisory Board. They would also love to be able to give teens an opportunity to plan and present lessons to younger children. PLEASE READ, as Water Street has changed the sign in procedure for volunteers:
Starting in July 2017, each student will have to create an account and complete a waiver. This is a requirement of Water Street and it is for your safety and theirs. Before going in to the Mission, go to the link:
- Create a username and password for yourself
- Click on your assigned shift and click the “sign up” button. Because you are under 18 years of age, you will need to complete a waiver and have it signed by a parent.
Guidelines and General Instructions for Water Street:
- Please wear comfortable closed-toed shoes and please do not wear sleeveless shirts. Hats and hair nets are located to the right of the serving line. Please was hands when you arrive
- Make sure you SIGN IN on the volunteer log or on the sign in iPad when you arrive. It is very important that you sign in each time you come. Attendance is monitored and used to determine future schedules.
- For reasons of confidentiality and privacy, please don’t photograph clients.
- When you’re coming down Prince St, our campus is the block between Farnum and Conestoga Streets on your right and you can park anywhere in the parking lot. (Parking passes are no longer required.)
- Responsibilities include: filling salad bar and condiments, serving, clean up and break down of serving and dining area, food prep
All NHS members are required to work one shift at Water Street Rescue Mission. Assigned dates are listed below. If you have a conflict, you must arrange to trade with another student and both of you must notify Mrs. Myers of the change.

NHS meetings will occur during homeroom in the cafeteria on the first Thursday of each month. As a member, it is your responsibility to notify Mrs. Henderson or Mrs. Myers, in advance of the meeting, if you have a conflict. Excused absences from school are excused from the meeting. An additional meeting will be held on Thursday April 25th in preparation for the Turkey Hill Country Classic.
Meeting dates: October 4th, November 1st, December 6th, January 3rd, February 7th, March 7th, April 4th, April 25th (this meeting is to train volunteers working at the Turkey Hill Country Classic), May 2nd
The Turkey Hill Country Classic volunteer event is Saturday, May 4th, 2019. All juniors are expected to participate along with any seniors needing to complete volunteer hours. The event is held at Central Manor Church of God. Consider carpooling with others.
Sign ups for this event and job training will occur at the April HR meeting.
