This week

Gingerbread Week is here and we sure are excited and ready! Thank you for all of the wonderful donations of candy that came in each day. Your generosity is greatly appreciated! We will start construction of the houses around 2:00pm in our room on Thursday. Anyone is welcome to join us. Guests and visitors just need to check in at the main office upon arrival. We will wrap up designing the masterpieces by 3:15. Students may go home with you. The office just needs to have an orange permission note to not go home on the bus. Thank you in advance for making this event so successful! We hope to see you on Thursday!

Please return all November reading calendars with total minutes counted. Students are very driven with reading goals. J

I can’t thank you enough for all of the wonderful gingerbread donations that are coming our way!  You are extremely generous! Thank you from nineteen very happy second graders! Just a reminder that we will be constructing the houses on Thursday December 6th at 2:00pm in our classroom. Anyone is welcome to come and help us! We will be building and then decorating until about 3:15. Second graders and the houses may then go home with you. October 15th

Dear Families,

We are working very hard in second grade on topic sentences, details and concluding sentences. We are trying to identify them in our stories and also have been writing paragraphs using all of those important elements.

This week we will start double digit addition with and without regrouping. We will be using manipulatives to lead us into writing the problems. Each day we have been working on basic math facts as we try to become faster and also more accurate. Any flashcard or website practice done at home with math facts may be listed on the October Reading calendar for extra credit.

Have a super week. Just a reminder that Friday is a 1:30 dismissal.

October 1st

It is hard to believe that October is already here! Thank you for adding up all of the September Reading minutes on the reading calendar. We will now start reading for the October minutes. Students will set a personal goal that is more than 120 minutes. Each month we will find our three Reader Leaders who have gone way over the personal goal and had the most minutes. Thank you for helping at home with signing the calendar each time your second grader reads!

We will also start our E/I groups this week. Students will be meeting with one of the four second grade teachers for a thirty minute writing lesson each day.  Our reading groups and math stations have also started now that October is here!

          Have a wonderful week. J

Sept. 24th

Dear Families,

We will have a short week due to no school on Friday.  New spelling words will be coming home on Thursday September 27th.  We will then be back on track for Friday spelling tests. Thank you for all that you are doing at home to practice spelling words.

Our September Reading Calendars will be due on October 1st. Students are extremely excited about how many minutes and extra minutes they have been reading at home. We will be counting all of the minutes from our class and adding them to all of the minutes from the other three second grades.  Be sure to ask your second grader about our Reader Leaders, our total minutes and our bulletin board that displays our totals.

          Have a super week!

This Week

This week in math we will continue to work on addition strategies with word problems. We have been using cubes, drawing pictures and counting up to solve addition problems. We will be jumping into fact families and missing addends along with related facts in subtraction as we move through chapter one.

We will continue to take our Spelling Tests each Friday.  Thank you for practicing words at home each week. You can decide with your second grader which bonus and robust words you feel he/she is ready for each week for the Friday test.

Kindness is our character trait for the month of September. Random acts of kindness are happening each and every day in 2-K!

          Have a super week!
