Rock Museum

The kids had so much fun today displaying their rock collections for their classmates. Each child laid their rocks out on their desk. They were given magnifying glasses and were asked to go around to each desk and look at all of the different rocks. We discussed rock properties before doing this. The students used their senses of sight and touch to describe the rocks they found as they walked around the classroom. They looked at the rocks color, texture, luster, and hardness. The students used a nail to see how hard their rocks were. If they were able to make a mark on a rock with the nail, the rock was considered somewhat soft. If they were unable to make a mark with a nail, that rock was considered pretty hard. The kids had a blast doing this and were very proud of their rock collections. Below you will find some highlights of our rock explorations.
