Colorful Beginnings…

Students in grades 1-6 created self portraits only using colors from the color spectrum.  Students in grades 4- 6 could use 2 colors next to each other to create transitions between the seven rainbow colors and grades 1-3 used varieties of one hue in Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, or Violet (ROY G. BIV).

Fall PCAD Scholarships

I have Pennsylvania College of Art and Design scholarships (1 for for grades 1-3 AND 1 available for grade 4-5)  for the Fall semester! These are 50% off (so 87.50 with coupon) for a youth art studio class at Pennsylvania College of Art and Design.  There is also a new STEAM class offered which is integrating science and art! It looks like that one would be 47.50 with the coupon.  Classes run on Saturdays from Sept thru November.  These would make great gifts for the artist in your family!

🙂

PS- I get nothing from the college for doing this.  They send these out to art teachers and I am just trying to pass on savings to anyone interested.  I have had lots of students take these in the past and they really love them!  I tried to attach a link to the site for more info, but am having difficulties.  You can see the descriptions of the classes on PCAD website under youth art fall classes.

Hello!

Hi Everyone!  My name is Jenny Steffy and I am excited to be the art teacher at Pequea Elementary!  I have been teaching art in Penn Manor for just about 10 years and have taught every grade from K-12.  I am thrilled to learn and grow creatively with the students of Pequea Elementary.  My passion is helping every student reach his/her own creative potential and artistic goals.  Students will be challenged with a variety of media in the visual arts to foster growth in problem solving, experimentation, expression, and self reflection.

Our very first all school project is under way and the students are exploring color theory (the science of colors).  I will post pics of the colorful collaboration soon!

Please feel free to reach out with any questions  at jenny.steffy@pennmanor.net.

FLYING into the year with Art!

Students in grades 1-6 flew into the new school year by creating their own unique “wing thing.”  Students in grades 4-6 read a book called Wings by Christoper Myers.  It is about a boy who learns how to overcome his differences and thrive when he “spreads his wings.” Students then had to create their own “wing thing” to display in a collaborative art installation.   Primary students learned about the life cycle of a butterfly and read the book Waiting for Wings by Lois Ehlert.   They also created an indidual wing project to display.

Additionally, all of the students in grades 1-6 worked on creating several pairs of GIANT wings to hang around the school.  It was a challenge for students to collaborate on the larger wings, but they worked so hard on them and they turned out to be beautiful!

Fourth Grade, Frida, and Fruit!

Fourth graders studied the life and art of Famous Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo.  We particularly looked at her still lifes of exotic fruits and vegetables and then created our own still life paintings of fruit.  We observed 3D forms of fake fruit, drew them, and painted them.  Students added a unique, creative background to thier still lifes.
