Students and teachers at Hambright have been having an exciting week!
Fourth graders completed chapter 7 in math. Students had time to work on test corrections in class today. If they did not finish, please work on them and turn in tomorrow if possible! Way to go!
We made ornaments for our families, wrote/designed cards for friends, bus drivers, family members, etc. A sweet, simple way to spread kindness with others!
They loved hearing some twists on the traditional “Gingerbread Man” stories. The boys and girls worked in small groups to compare and contrast the different texts. Ask your fourth grader about what they read.
On Wednesday fourth graders joined many others in our Hambright community in spreading some holiday cheer with our neighbors at Manor Middle School. How great!?
Thanks to Mrs. Foster for helping us this afternoon. 4-Szentesy was excited to use Cheese in recording a video and uploading that video to our online classroom. This was a test on using the technology. In 2019, students will record a Book Talk to advertise a book. This will be done when students COMPLETE a new book. Keep reading over the break!
Friday is our Holiday assembly. The fourth graders will sing a song in the assembly, along with other grade levels and a few special performances. Parents are always invited to our All-School Assemblies. I want to give you a heads-up that this is a long morning. If you can join us, great! We’d love to have you! Just remember that this will be much longer than our usual assemblies. Thanks for your patience.
Students will be dismissed at 1:30 tomorrow!
Thank you all for a wonderful 2018. This class is the best and I am just the fortunate one to spend each day with them. Looking forward to a fantastic 2019!!
Monthly Archives: December 2018
Next week!
The holiday excitement is building in 4-Szentesy! The students have stayed focused on their work, and I couldn’t be prouder. Just a few reminders/news items:
Next TUESDAY we will have book exchange (thank you Mrs. Etzweiler!)
There will be NO SPELLING list or test next week (see you in 2019!)
We WILL have a math test to finish out chapter 7 before the break. Sequences and Patterns have been going well. Keep working hard!
Next Friday is our Holiday assembly. You are always welcome to attend any assembly. We begin by 9:15 and you can stay as long/as short as you wish! We may dress for the holiday by wearing a “favorite ugly sweater” or just any holiday garb! Students will be dismissed at 1:30 on Friday, ready for the long break.
Thank you for all of your support as always. I just love this group of fourth graders. Every day they are striving to be leaders, remembering the seven habits as often as possible. What a special group!
Have a great weekend!
Mad Scientists
Students synergized in small groups to power up a lightbulb today. The excitement and focus were contagious. They worked in harmony and showed win-win thinking. Even during moments of frustration, fourth graders displayed grit (shown on their smiling faces!).

DECEMBER!!!!
I can’t believe it’s December 5 already! This school year is flying by (at least it is to me!). Here are a few updates and new information/reminders.
MATH: The students worked hard on Chapter 6. Tests came home today and corrections are due by Friday (or Monday, when I’m back). The students were required to complete a Benchmark Test today, covering material in chapters 4, 5, and 6. We will begin chapter 7 on Patterns and Sequences tomorrow (Thursday).
Spelling: Keep practicing. Test 11 is this Friday.
ELA (Reading): Students completed Unit 2 before Thanksgiving Break. Tests were returned last week. This month we are continuing to focus on Non-fiction text. The first lesson dealt with fact and opinion. We are working on learning different text structures (description, cause/effect, problem/solution, sequence, compare/contrast).
Science: They’re having fun continuing the unit on Physics/Magnetism.
Social Studies: We are learning about the 5 Themes of Geography.
**Items are still being collected for Hambright’s Mitten Tree!**
I received numerous compliments from Mrs. Breneman, as she was my substitute the past few weeks. I will be away again this Friday for a trip and then next week for another training day. I expect the students to be as respectful, hard-working, and kind to the other substitutes as they were with Mrs. Breneman.
A reminder that December book orders are due Monday, and we have Book Exchange next Tuesday.
Thank you for sending your children to school ready to learn each day. I am just loving this group of fourth graders this year!
If you have any questions or concerns, remember that my door is always open. Thank you!
