Kids at Work – 2019 edition

What to do???
Not sure what to do on this day off?
1. When it starts snowing (hopefully a decent amount) go out and play!!!!!
2. When it turns to rain/ice, come inside and…
-Study for your Chapter 10 math test (tomorrow!)
-Read! – can you write a simple summary of what you read in 3-5 sentences? (Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then)
-Practice your difficult spelling words (probably will postpone the test until next week)
-Plan your “Kids At Work” outfit for Friday
-Write a paragraph about your day (topic sentence, 3 detail sentences, conclusion)
-Nominate a teacher or staff member for “Educator of the Year” (due Friday)

Please also note, due to this day off, school will now be in session on Friday, May 24!
Be safe and see you all Thursday!

Calendar Change!
The Kids Heart Challenge will be rescheduled for next Thursday, Feb. 28th from 3:30-5:00pm in the Hambright Gym.
This means that you still have more time to raise money for the American Heart Association. As a building, over $3,000 has been raised so far. How high can we go?
Updates
Wow! What a crazy week! After missing two full days, a morning delay, and Valentine’s Day celebrations, we are quite off of our normal routine!
Monday: No school (Presidents’ Day)
Tuesday: We will work on a practice test for Chapter 10 in math.
Wednesday: Chapter 10 math test! Also, book orders will be due. Sorry for the late notice. You may send in an order form (coming home today) or order online (many more choices available online).
Thursday: Hopefully a normal day! Benchmark test in math today (covering chapters 7-10)
Friday: Kids at Work Day (dress like a career you would like to have in the future!). Book Exchange today as well!
Students were excited to print their writing pieces for NIE. They were safely delivered to the newspaper for entry in the writing contest. Students wrote very detailed, expressive stories making connections to Lancaster County. Way to go fourth graders!
We are plugging away at our new reading unit, focusing on fiction stories again. Spelling will continue next week as well.
Race for Education labels are due on Monday, Feb. 25. So far, our class has contributed 70 labels. Keep them coming in!
As always, let me know if you have any questions at all!
Kids at Work!
Kids at Work Day is on Friday, February 22, 2019!
As a way to promote career exploration and awareness with our elementary students, the Penn Manor elementary schools are planning a special day across the district.
On Friday, February 22, 2019 students are invited to wear clothing that represents careers they may be interested in exploring as an adult. Adults in the building are encouraged to wear college/military/post secondary clothing. Adults may also choose to dress up in clothing that represents a career.
Our hope is that Kids at Work Day is way to start conversations at home and at school about different types of careers, why someone chooses a career, and what kind of training/schooling is needed to get started in a particular career.
Thank you for your support!
Reminder!
Tomorrow is “Sports Team” day and also a Spelling Test. We’ve had an amazing week of synergizing and kindness. Keep it up!
CHAMPS!!!
Wowie Wow Wow! Our fourth grade math bowl team is the best! There was some fierce competition at Pequea Elementary this afternoon. We are proud of our fourth grade leaders for bringing home the trophies for FIRST PLACE! A special Thank You to Mrs. Hufford for coaching the team this year.
Way to synergize and come out on top. Let’s celebrate!
