The final countdown!

I can’t believe this year is coming to a close. This group of fourth graders quickly stole my heart. They have really shined lately, with their daily use of the seven habits, their behavior on the field trip, and especially the sportsmanship displayed at this afternoon’s Track and Field Day.

Many of our fourth graders walked away with wristbands for “placing” in their events. But EVERY ONE of the students in 4-Sz held their heads high, congratulated their classmates, and felt proud, no matter where they finished. That’s true leadership! Way to work hard, have fun, and show incredible sportsmanship. MANY THANKS to Mrs. Barnett and our several volunteers who made today possible. The last two field events and the shuttle relays should be able to compete on Monday. Phew!

Reminder that on Monday we will complete those final events, and also watch/cheer on the kickball game between 6th graders and the teachers. Who will win???!!!

Tuesday is “Beach Day” at Hambright, where students are encouraged to dress for beach, but must be appropriate for school (no swimsuits). I’m thinking floral prints, neon colors, etc.

Wednesday will be an EARLY EARLY dismissal at 11:30. No meals will be served at school that day. Report cards will come home with children that day as well.

As always, thank you for your support this year of your student, our class, and me as a teacher. Let me know if you have any questions at all!

Update

Due to the forecast this afternoon, we will postpone our Track and Field day. The raindate is next Thursday, May 30. The forecast looks MUCH better for that day! This also gives you another week to “practice” your skills!

Tomorrow looks sunny and warm for our fourth grade field trip. Students will be given many reminders this afternoon. Please see the purple paper that comes home with your child this afternoon. We will see the show at the Fulton in the morning, and then enjoy some time at the park for lunch/playtime.

This week/month!

Reminder that tomorrow (Friday, May 10) will be a 1:30 dismissal for students. After that, please come back to Hambright for the fun Family Picnic, 5:30-8:00. The Book Fair will be open from 5:00-7:00, and it’s Buy One, Get One Free! Great chance to stock up on some summer reading!

Students will have a spelling test this Friday on words with silent letters (Lesson 26).

In Math, they are working hard to review all concepts taught this year. On Monday, May 13 students will take the fourth grade benchmark test. This 40 problem assessment covers all material from fourth grade math. After that, we will begin front-loading the FIFTH GRADE math curriculum, working on chapter one.

In ELA, they are working hard on reading poetry, prose, and dramas. The test will be Friday.

Another reminder about Track and Field Day. Mrs. Barnett is looking for a few more volunteers to make this afternoon run smoothly. The date for this exciting event-filled afternoon is May 23. Please see the paper that came home last week and consider volunteering. Thank you!

This has been a wonderful week to be spoiled for “Teacher Appreciation Week.” Hambright is THE BEST place to call home. Thank you Thank you Thank you!

Lastly, I wish a wonderful, restful, special Happy Mothers’ Day to all of you!
