Day 1 – Oh what fun!?

The first day of second grade is officially in the books! We had a nice time getting to know one another and the procedures in second grade. The boys and girls were able to color, write a short story, and analyze data from a birthday graph. They even had the opportunity to use their new Chromebooks (be sure to send in the Laptop Agreement so that the device may come home!)

We left the room to practice a Fire Drill, and crickets came hopping in! Miss Armstrong and Miss Szentesy helped to shoo them out. Well, wouldn’t you know it, one guy was an eager reader, and wouldn’t come out from behind the bookshelf. We had a nice noisy time before lunch when Miss Szentesy was able to safely get that bugger outside. (Can you blame the cricket for wanting to be surrounded by books?)

Reminder that students must wear masks and they must cover the nose and mouth. We had a few chances for mask breaks (while seated, and while outside). It’s new to all of us, and we’ll get used to it eventually. Thank you for reminding the children of this important requirement.

Be sure to check out the video posted on the Pequea blog:

I loved getting to know these second graders. This will be a fantastic year since we have such fantastic kids!

Have a great night! Can’t wait to see the Szentesy Squad in September!

Internet Forms

Thank you!! I have already received some “internet” forms from students and parents. Just a reminder that you probably already signed one of those when you enrolled your student in the district. For permission to take the new laptops home, we need to have the one below on file. I apologize for any confusion….

I can’t wait to see you on Monday! (Have you been practicing your greeting?)

Did you know?

Second graders will each have a really cool laptop to use at school AND at home! In order to take the laptop home, students must have a signed document on file. I encourage all families to do this soon, as I would love to provide review and enrichment opportunities at home. How cool would it be for your second grader to bring home a brand new device at the start of the school year? Please read this important blog post from the office:

As you know the Penn Manor School Board voted to provide computers for all learners in grades 1 – 12. This means we will be trying to coordinate the delivery of MANY computers to children over the next few weeks. In order for any student to be provided a laptop, parents and students must complete and return a signed document.

Teachers are excited to begin distributing laptops so they can train children in ways to log on and practice accessing certain learning opportunities.

If you follow this link: https://technology.pennmanor.net/tech-policies/ please read 815.1 – Responsible Use of Internet and Network Resources. Once you read this document and agree, you can sign the Student/Parent Responsible Use Signature Form and return it to school. The best ways to return this signed document to ensure that your child will get their laptop right away.

  1. Sign the document and send it back to your classroom teacher. (Did you know that if you have an iphone, you can use the notes app as a scanner?)
  2. Print this document and send it in to the attention of your child’s teacher.
  3. Print this document and send it the very first day of school.

If your child registered for school this year… you already signed this document and there is no reason to sign it again. This applies most to children in grades 1-4.

Can’t wait to see you!

Dr. Murray posted the following on the Pequea blog. In case you missed it, please check out below! 🙂
