Monthly Archives: January 2021

End of the month

It’s the end of January? How is that possible? Here are some updates from the Szentesy Squad:

Students will bring home their first math book today. There may be some extra pages they can work on at home. Let your second grader show you what he/she learned in chapter 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6! (we start chapter 2 next week).

We will celebrate many holidays in February. First off, it’s Kindness Month.

–Monday we will “Color the World with Kindness” by wearing bright, neon colors!

–Tuesday is Groundhog Day….what will the silly rodent predict for the Spring?

–Friday will be American Heart Association’s “Go Red” Day. Students are encouraged to wear red today, or wear a Jersey to celebrate the big game coming up that weekend!

–Report cards will come home next Friday as well.

We will be back to our regular reading/spelling schedule. Lesson 16 will be tested next Friday, February 5.

Whoaaa! We’re half-way there!

We have reached the end of the first semester of second grade! I am proud of the Szentesy Squad for working so hard, showing kindness, and staying safe this first half of the year. Here are some updates/reminders for the next few weeks:

Monday: New student returning, Welcome back Vinny!!! We will also begin our second round of Art with Mrs. Steffy.

Tuesday: Book Exchange!

Wednesday: Math test on Chapter 7

Thursday: Wrap up our Science unit. We begin Social Studies Feb. 1.

Friday: Spelling test on Lesson 15, Reading and Vocabulary test too! Early Dismissal at 1:30.

February 5 – Report Cards go home. Wear Red today for the American Heart Association

IF YOU WANT TO CELEBRATE VALENTINE’S DAY:
** Valentines must be in school by Wednesday Feb. 10 (day 100!)

**If there is a treat, it must be individually store-wrapped (lollipops, etc.). We sadly cannot accept homemade treats.

Valentine’s Day will surely look different this year, but the warm fuzzy feelings will remain!

SUPPLIES:
It is time to take inventory of some school supplies. Could you ask your second grader if she/he is in need of some supplies, such as pencils, erasers, glue sticks, crayons, and Expo (dry erase) markers? Now might be a good time to stock up for the second half of the year. We use the Chromebooks often, but these other supplies are often missing or broken. I do have some extra to provide if needed. Thank you for helping supply your kiddo when possible.

Looking forward to next week already!

Welcome Back!

What a wonderful week to start 2021. The Szentesy Squad took a very short time getting back into our daily routines at Pequea. We were delighted to have Miguel H. join us on Monday. On Tuesday we celebrated his birthday too, what a treat! After reading “Big Bushy Mustache,” we started reading in disguise. Check out a few pictures below! (remember, the reading test AND spelling test AND vocabulary test will be on Monday. They are ready for it!)

We are thankful for Mrs. Keller, our very own “Google Doc” for visiting our class on Friday. Ask your second grader about the quiz we took on how to take care of my Chromebook. This refresher course will help all of us to remember good Chromebook etiquette, cleanliness, and care. Thank you Mrs. Keller!

There were some insightful reflections made on 2020, and a few goals set for 2021. The students made mobiles which are on display in the hallway. They will travel home after a few weeks!

Students are working hard in math, impressing me with their determination. When Miss Szentesy was about to cry over a difficult lesson, the boys and girls coached me and cheered me on. Without their support and encouragement, I don’t know what I’d do! We all got through it together and they taught me a lot. Thank you second graders!

Science lessons on Energy have begun! The interactive notebooks are intriguing the students. They are excited to keep learning about different forms of energy and why it’s so important.

Remember to check the “Important Dates” tab on this page.

*Charge your laptop!
*Return your library book on Monday or Tuesday.

Thank you!
