I can’t believe this year is coming to a close. This group of fourth graders quickly stole my heart. They have really shined lately, with their daily use of the seven habits, their behavior on the field trip, and especially the sportsmanship displayed at this afternoon’s Track and Field Day.
Many of our fourth graders walked away with wristbands for “placing” in their events. But EVERY ONE of the students in 4-Sz held their heads high, congratulated their classmates, and felt proud, no matter where they finished. That’s true leadership! Way to work hard, have fun, and show incredible sportsmanship. MANY THANKS to Mrs. Barnett and our several volunteers who made today possible. The last two field events and the shuttle relays should be able to compete on Monday. Phew!
Reminder that on Monday we will complete those final events, and also watch/cheer on the kickball game between 6th graders and the teachers. Who will win???!!!
Tuesday is “Beach Day” at Hambright, where students are encouraged to dress for beach, but must be appropriate for school (no swimsuits). I’m thinking floral prints, neon colors, etc.
Wednesday will be an EARLY EARLY dismissal at 11:30. No meals will be served at school that day. Report cards will come home with children that day as well.
As always, thank you for your support this year of your student, our class, and me as a teacher. Let me know if you have any questions at all!
Due to the forecast this afternoon, we will postpone our Track and Field day. The raindate is next Thursday, May 30. The forecast looks MUCH better for that day! This also gives you another week to “practice” your skills!
Tomorrow looks sunny and warm for our fourth grade field trip. Students will be given many reminders this afternoon. Please see the purple paper that comes home with your child this afternoon. We will see the show at the Fulton in the morning, and then enjoy some time at the park for lunch/playtime.
Reminder that tomorrow (Friday, May 10) will be a 1:30 dismissal for students. After that, please come back to Hambright for the fun Family Picnic, 5:30-8:00. The Book Fair will be open from 5:00-7:00, and it’s Buy One, Get One Free! Great chance to stock up on some summer reading!
Students will have a spelling test this Friday on words with silent letters (Lesson 26).
In Math, they are working hard to review all concepts taught this year. On Monday, May 13 students will take the fourth grade benchmark test. This 40 problem assessment covers all material from fourth grade math. After that, we will begin front-loading the FIFTH GRADE math curriculum, working on chapter one.
In ELA, they are working hard on reading poetry, prose, and dramas. The test will be Friday.
Another reminder about Track and Field Day. Mrs. Barnett is looking for a few more volunteers to make this afternoon run smoothly. The date for this exciting event-filled afternoon is May 23. Please see the paper that came home last week and consider volunteering. Thank you!
This has been a wonderful week to be spoiled for “Teacher Appreciation Week.” Hambright is THE BEST place to call home. Thank you Thank you Thank you!
Lastly, I wish a wonderful, restful, special Happy Mothers’ Day to all of you!
Today was a special day in 4-Sz. We welcomed a rockstar new student, Rochell. The girls and boys did a wonderful job welcoming her to our family!
Tuesday is our Science PSSA. Students are to wear a team shirt/jersey to show that we are all a TEAM and supporting one another. We have Library Instruction.
Wednesday is our last day of Science PSSA! “Hats off!” to a job well done. But actually hats can stay on today! (provided they are not distracting). We will have Art.
Thursday will be a “normal” day. We have Phys. Ed.
Friday is our Race for Education (weather permitting). We will have Music in the morning and the afternoon is for racing! Or walking, skipping, dancing…. Cross your fingers for nice weather. The rain make-up day is next Thursday, May 9 if necessary.
The boys and girls were excited to learn about our Fourth Grade Field Trip in May. Please see the notes that came home with your student today. Papers are due back by May 10. Thank you!
Have a great night and rest up for the final push to PSSA testing. I’m so proud of these kids!
Remember to wear NEON on Thursday. This is our way to show that our future is Bright!
Friday is the best day of the year (Fine Arts Day). Please feel free to wear a Leader shirt if you have one.
After working hard this morning on the Math PSSA, 4-Szentesy had a little fun getting to know more about others. Partners were randomly chosen, so students were FORCED to speak to someone new. Rotations were made so everyone got a chance to share with and learn about a few different classmates. They really enjoyed it! Way to increase conversation, work on eye contact, and better our overall communication in a fun way! What can you talk about tonight?
We had a hard-working, successful, optimistic week of PSSA testing for ELA. On Thursday, the students in fourth grade were treated to a movie “Whispers.” We also read Rechenka’s Eggs by Patricia Polacco and saw the process to making pysanky. Ask your child what happened during the All School Assembly today!
Thank you, parents, for the encouragement you gave to your child this week. Several other teachers commented to me on how hard the individual students worked, especially on the TDA portions of their tests.
Also a big thank you to the families who donated some snacks. It was a nice treat to offer the students after the test was finished for the morning.
Next week: Monday – no school Tuesday – Regular day of school! Music Wednesday – PSSA Math, wear sweats, Library Instruction/Book Exchange! Thursday – PSSA Math, wear bright neon colors, Art Friday – Fine Arts Day (the best day of the year at Hambright!), no “Phys. Ed.”
I hope you all have a wonderful Easter/Passover/Spring Break with your families!
Good afternoon! This is a reminder that students are permitted to wear pajamas (school-appropriate) to class on Monday. The kids are ready for the test, they had a lot of rest, and they will do their best!
Thanks for sending in any donations for snacks. After working so hard on ELA portion of the PSSA, it’s nice to provide a little something to them to fill their growling bellies.
Students in 4-Szentesy will not have spelling next week, and will not have homework to complete in the evenings. Thank you for the support you give to your children as they come in ready to show us all they know next week!
Report cards will now go home tomorrow, April 9. Please read over the information, praise your child for his progress, discuss areas of improvement. Then sign the envelope and return to school as soon as possible. Thank you!
